West Coast Park

With the theme "Play Centre in the West", the western portion of West Coast Park has been transformed into a haven for park visitors who enjoys challenging and adventurous activities. Standing at the centre core of area 3 is the Adventure Play Area that caters to people of different age groups, from toddlers to young adults. This is the heart and most active zone of West Coast Park. If you like a quiet and peaceful environment, the eastern portion at area 1 would be a good choice for park users to rest and relax.

Admiralty Park

Admiralty Park is a national park in Woodlands, Singapore that is 27 hectares in size. It is made unique by its river valley shaped hilly terrain. This feature reflects the history of the site, as it used to have Sungei Cina running through it. A path runs along the river and circulates the park. Much of the park is mangrove swamp. Several boardwalks cut through the mangrove, providing places for observing and appreciating the flora and fauna with minimal disturbance of the habitat. The park works closely with neighbouring Republic Polytechnic. One collaboration has been the Admiralty Park E-Guide, an online guide to the plants in the park produced by students from the School of Applied Science. http://www.rp.edu.sg/admiraltypark/

Lower Pierce

Peirce Reservoir was commissioned on 26th March 1912 by his Excellency Sir Arthur Young and was known then as the Kallang River Reservoir. This waterwork, together with Woodleigh, took 10 years to construct and upon completion, provided 9 million gallons of water daily. It was renamed as Peirce Reservoir in 1922 after Robert Peirce, the Municipal Engineer from 1901 to 1916. In 1975, it was again renamed as Lower Peirce Reservoir, after the new Upper Peirce Reservoir Park was constructed. Lower and Upper Peirce Reservoir Parks are known for their tranquil and scenic settings. This is where people can escape from the hustle and bustle of city life to just dwell in serene surroundings. Sungei Buloh

In 1986, a group of avid birdwatchers from the then Malayan Nature Society (Singapore Branch) stumbled upon this ecological jewel, and subsequently wrote a proposal to the government for its conservation. The 87 ha wetland site was consequently designated as a nature park in 1989. The then Parks & Recreation Department, a precursor to the National Parks Board, undertook the development of Sungei Buloh, in consultation with experts in the field, notably, the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust from the United Kingdom and Worldwide Fund for Nature. On 6 Dec 1993, Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong officially opened the Nature Park. http://www.sbwr.org.sg/

Little Guilin

Also known as Xiao Guilin among the locals, the Little Guilin looks similar to that of Guilin in China - a granite rock sitting within a lake. It was originally a disused granite quarry. In fact, the name "Bukit Batok" has been suggested to be derived from the noise made by the blasting in the granite quarry that now form the natural surroundings of Little Guilin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Guilin

Macritchie

MacRitchie Reservoir was constructed in 1867, by a donation of S$13,000 by philanthropist Tan Kim Seng, as the first impounding reservoir in Singapore. It resulted from an increase demand for water in the mid-19th century, which grew beyond the capacity of ox-drawn water carts. In 1891, the reservoir was extended and the enlarged Impounding Reservoir was renamed as Thomson Road Reservoir in 1907. Then, in honour of the Municipal Engineer, James MacRitchie, who designed and built the reservoir, it was renamed again as MacRitchie Reservoir. The forest around the area was protected from agricultural activities so as to service the reservoir as a water catchment reserve.
