WQED and Central Catholic High School. It is true. I went to school in Mister Roger's Neighborhood.
The grand entry to Central Catholic, Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh. Often called by lealous rivals (especially from North Catholic) the "Fairy Castle." Thank you Harry Tuminello for still being there!
After almost 35 years, at least one of my trophies still exists in the trophy hall of my high school. Debate. 1974. Top shelf, center, victory bowl. National Bicentennial Debates, Williamsburg, Semi-finalist. Kudos to Alfred Metz, partner in this crime.
Poor kids who go to Prep Schools work their summers. The school's practice ball field was under my care for three sweltering Pittsbugh summers.
The view from my high school parking lot of the University of Pittsburg. It was rumored that Dan Marino could hit the Tower from the school practice field with a football. Trust me, it's just a rumor.
The only academic structure of its kind anywhere. The Gothic building is paired with a smaller gothic style chapel (Heinz Chapel) and is surrounded by over 2 aquare miles of academic buildings, hospitals, museums, libraries, and pubs (gotta have pubs!). And, yes, it has elevators.
The ground floor interior of the Cathedral. Lots of nooks for study or sleeping. The cold stone gives the room a cave like weather and feel.
The east-west corridor of the Cathedral. The outer ring of corridors are lined with the International Rooms. Each is designed to represent the educational history of the contributing country.
The Litchfield Towers. Student dorms or vertical ghettos. Take your pick. There are three adjacent to the old Schenley Hotel which has served as the Pitt Student Union for...ever. Recently redone including the cleaning of the stone exterior. Quite elegant now. Dingy and dark 35 years ago.
Pittsburgh Children's Hospital. I spent way too much time as a kid in it's clinics and hospital beds.
A novel bit of wall graffiti that I need to research. "Charcoal" effect from either paint can or spray gun with stencil. This could be a promotion of some type. Cookies for anyone who knows.
