Photo 1: Crosman M1 carbine and 15-round box magazine from “real” M1 carbine
Photo 2: 15-round magazine for M1 carbine. Usually referred to (erroneously) as a “clip.” Paid $6 for it at a gun show.
Photo 3: Gently pry up the round end of mag bottom and push forward to remove. Spring jumps out! Follower is still inside mag.
Photo 4: Front of magazine showing reinforcing rib. Top is to the right and bottom to left.
Photo 5: Measure 3“ from bottom and cut off the top. Try to keep square. About 1/2” - 5/8“ remains above tabs.
Photo 6: Cut slots at the corners. Go almost to the tabs, as shown.
Photo 7: Note the width of cuts. Some light hammering has already been done in this photo (upper lips bend inward slightly).
Photo 8: On the front, cut 1/2“ long slots on either side of the center rib. Heat tab to red and bend out at 45 degree angle.
Photo 9: Finished cutoff, slots, and hammering. Rear view.
Photo 10: Pretty close copy of the real thing!
