Lake Naivasha Country Club-- a terrific (albeit posh) place to stay. I preferred LaBella in terms of productivity and usefulness but the groomed grounds and country club atmosphere was a nice break-- highly recommend this for a vacation. We stayed in the cabanas (pictured) for around $120 USD a night.
Carl, Bishop Jeremiah and Robert, surveying the site for a proposed 2000 unit single family home project along the six-laned Nairobi-Thika highway. It's a great project!
Mountain views, and in the distance, gazelles and thomson gazelles scampered about. Oddly, it was the only truly wild wildlife I saw in two trips in Africa!
Our Naivasha HQ: LaBella B+B-- not exactly the Ritz but incredibly productive and located on the main road in Naivasha. Helpful hint: don't get a room that has a streetside wall... the trucks start rolling down the road around 4:30am!
Ronald was the bar manager at LaBella, one of the best sources of information and guidance for us on vetting real estate and business deals in Naivasha. He knew everybody!
The Pallangyo's Little Orphanage housing 6 boys but their organization pays for boarding and schooling for 7 others.
The front porch at LaBella on the main drag in Naivasha... despite the dust and noise, business gets done here. Staying at LaBella was incredibly useful for us.
The "parking attendant" at LaBella-- notice the bullwhip over his shoulder, keeping order on the sidewalk and street out front.
The unfinished larger orphanage--- my wife Shelley hewed some of those stones, the only woman to have worked with the stone cutters!
Gates to the little orphange-- the big orphanage is just to the left of this photo.
The little orphanage
Veggies growing outside the little orphanage-- the night watchman is also the gardener and a very good one! He was an inmate at the large prison in Naivasha, and was counseled by Bishop Jeremiah.
More veggies and seedlings.
St. Catherines new dining and study hall... a school run by Mary W., a very astute businesswoman who also leads the church's microloan program.
The smaller classroom building at St. Catherines.
Carl and Mary at St. Catherine's, Mary's school.
New classrooms and kitchen, under construction.
The main classroom building. The little car in the foreground is Mary's, which endures the road to the school which would give a Land Rover a good workout.
St. Mary's water catchment system, later to be filtered and used.
The dust blurred my camera but the men are building a new dormitory for the high school girls Mary plans to board and enroll next year.
A neighbor child finds me a curiosity.
