Hurricane Wilma, Key West, October 24, 2005. The most serious hurricane here since 1998: 60% of the island was underwater, hit by two separate water surges that were up to six feet high in some peoples' homes.
We had a bit of a mess here at the marina but we fared a lot better than some of our landlubber friends who lost everything.
Our only casualty -poor little guy!
The entire mast is down.
The dock's on the dock!
Used to be a dock
Skewered by the piling
Ouch!
Funny place for a rock...
Funny place for a tree!
The entire enclosure is ripped apart and dangling off to the side.
This channel marker was about a half mile away from our marina.
Our bait & tackle shop
There used to be a row of freezers and bait wells here.
Our dry storage barn. You can see the blue-tail end of the forklift...
...the door was skewered on the top of it, narrowly missing our two scooters in front of it!!
A sudden new entrance to the left.
Disposing of the crumpled door.
Our friends Jacqueline & Eric, and puppy Jack.
The marina next door took a big hit.
This used to be a street, now a beach.
North Roosevelt Blvd runs along those palm trees.
Tennis, anyone? Maybe water polo...
North Roosevelt Blvd in pieces
A mess at the airport
A few photos of the effects Hurricane Wilma had in Grand Cayman. This little island is still very close to my heart and so I worry as much about it as I do my own rock during hurricane season! We still have friends there.
Georgetown, Grand Cayman
A friends sent me these two impressive photos, also Hurricane Wilma, I believe. They are taken in Cuba.
