Spartans' Matt Gownley named 2013 Schuylkill County Football Scholar-Athlete!
On Sunday, April 7th, Matthew Gownley was named the 2013 Schuylkill County Football Scholar Athlete during the 52nd annual banquet at Hillcrest Hall in Minersville. Gownley was chosen over 13 other candidates, each representing their high school. Gownley becomes the fifth player to represent the Spartans as the county scholar-athlete, and second in his family, joining his cousin Ed Pavalko, who won the award in 2011. Other winners from NS include: John Rosella, 1969; Terry Rakowsky, 1978; and Gino Capone, 1999.
For winning the award, Gownley receives $1,000 scholarships from both the chapter, and the James J. and Mary Edith Rhoades Foundation, also the trophy, and a football signed by all of the candidates, and members from the Chapter No. 25.
Matt has chosen to attend Villanova University, where he will study medicine.
