Apr 10, 2010 : So I had never planned on going NEAR the protests today, only to go visit my friend Anjie on Khao San road for some catch up. Except my cab took a wrong turn, and then dropped me off here. Not good.
Walking away from the intersection, redshirts and monks on the sidelines watching the incoming army vehicles.
Army behind the reds quickly picked up their guns and aimed.
Scene from Makkasan intersection, before I hopped a moto taxi to get out of the way.
Army lined up on all sides of the intersection.
Off Khao San (on Thanon Tanao rd), redshirts and monks mingle and watch the army just up the street.
Main red shirts on Thanon Tanao, with loudspeakers.
Army in the background, reds in the foreground on Thanon Tanao.
Between the two sets of barricades on Thanon Tanao.
Monk taking pictures of the protests.
Military helicopter flying above Democracy Monument.
Reds shouted at the helicopter every time it passed.
Reds streaming back to Kok Woa from elsewhere in Bangkok
Helicopter dropped leaflets, telling people to disperse as the army was coming to reclaim the area for citizens of BKK.
Plucky young kid with the leaflet sent by the army.
Helicopter kept flying lower and lower.
Reds turn CCTV cameras toward the sky, away from the protesters.
A particularly long message.
And finally the helicopter started dropping tear gas, at which point I left.
Khao San with an army helicopter above it - not a sight you see every day.
