My name is Violet and I am a travel doll. I travel the world but I also love the National Parks! (In this photo I'm hiking in Yosemite National Park.)
One national park I love is Grand Teton National Park. Here I am in front of one of the visitor centers in the park.
We went to Grand Teton in January and it was cold! And clouds were covering the mountains, so we didn't get to see the "grand tetons".
We still had a fun time, though. We took hikes and enjoyed being outdoors.
And there were hundreds of elk! Grand Teton gets migrating elk every winter.
Back in the hotel I worked on my journal and checked the map. I always keep up a travel journal when I travel, just like my Mama.
On the last day in Grand Teton National Park we hoped to see the huge mountains, but they were still fogged in. Darn it.
Another park that I love is Yosemite National Park! I have an entire album dedicated to my time there. Here is the link: http://picasaweb.google.com/jessicartrump/VioletInYosemite/photo#5159139403293357634
Later that fall we went to Bryce National Park, a beautiful park here in my home-state of Utah!
Bryce is very pretty, there are red rock chimneys called "hoodoos".
Aren't they pretty?
I love to hike, which is a good thing, because that is how you get up close to the hoodoos.
If we go to national parks in the summer we often camp. That means I get to sleep in a sleeping bag!
It is so cold in the middle of the night that you have to wear a sweatshirt.
Here I am at Inspiration Point. Isn't it pretty?
The next morning we woke up really early and went to an area called Sunrise Point.
We got there early enough to watch the sunrise!
And it was awesome!
Channel Islands National Park is off the coast of California.
Inside the visitor's center I look at the 3D maps of the islands.
And check out this elephant seal! He is huge!
I go to the top of the visitor's center and look off the coast, in the distance I can see the islands.
Mama and Daddy went to Santa Cruz island and did some hiking.
And saw hundreds of dolphins!
The islands are really interesting because they are undeveloped and are home to lots and lots of animals and sea life.
Another park that I love is Arches National Park. This one is also in Utah!
Arches is known for its beautiful red rock and high cliffs (and arches!).
I could sit here all day.
In town Mama lets me go to a rock shop, which is my favorite. Look at this green one, neat huh?
The next day we had sun! Here is an arch called Corona Arch.
Isn't the landscape interesting?
The formation behind me is called Balanced Rock, I bet you can guess why!
I love Arches National Park!
In April 2008 I went to another Utah National Park - Canyonlands!
And I got to bring a friend, Inky! "Isn't this beautiful?" I asked.
Inky and I even became Jr. Rangers. Isn't that neat?
It was really cold at night, so we snuggled in the tent.
And played on the red rocks during the day.
We even pretended that the red rocks were Mars and played with our toys in the caves.
The next summer (Summer 2009) my best friend Inky came out to visit again and we went to the Grand Canyon!
We stayed on the North Rim in a really fun cabin. This is the view from right outside the cabin's door!
And of course, we went on lots of hikes.
Isn't this view point awesome?
Check out this one. This one is called Cape Royal.
Here is the cabin we stayed in. Do you see Daddy on the front porch?
On our last day in the park we even became Jr. Rangers!
Later that same summer Mama, Daddy and I flew to Canada and visited two National Parks! Both Banff and Jasper National Parks. Here is a link to the entire album: http://picasaweb.google.com/jessicartrump/VioletVisitsTheCanadianRockies#5374108294149422434
In October of 2009 we went to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.
Isn't it so beautiful? It looks a little bit like the Canadian Rockies, but different too.
Because it is October in the mountains, it is quite chilly! Glad I have my hoodie.
And look, there is even snow on the ground in some places! Brrr...
I love Rocky Mountain National Park!
