For Valentine's Day, Marshall and I decided to head to Monterey for some salty sea air and tasty clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. Before heading off we took the opportunity to get a picture while the sun was still out. Shortly after taking this picture the skies turned grey and it began to rain.
Marshall at Marina State Beach with waves crashing in the background and a seagull friend watching over his shoulder.
Hey that's me! This is where hangliders apparently launch and land from. We didn't see anyone take off. The weather was probably too stormy for that.
Ah yes, another dead thing to take a picture of. Yeah it's a seal all right. It was really strange because it's skull was picked clean but the rest of its body and pelt seemed intact. Weird.
A very cool looking jellyfish (also dead).
Seaweed poppers! I attempted to pull one of the strands free so I could swing it around and then send it crashing to the ground to pop the end but gave up when the pile of seaweed at the end of the rope put up a good fight.
Wish my stomach wasn't showing in this picture however this was the best hand stand I've ever done. I held it for days. Seriously, I was just sitting there and only started to fall over because instead of holding my head up I looked through my arms. That finally threw me off balance.
An apparently headless Marshall does a handstand with less success than me. It was still good though. =)
Timber!!
Marshall draws the outline of his base from "Tower Defense". His sandcastle then began to get a little out of hand (went a little crazy with the shadowing) so I'll just include this nice picture. ;)
Attempting to break off a piece of seaweed to jumprope with. The seaweed was super slippery and super strong.
Oh crap this was probably not a good idea. Marshall, your turn.
Oh what? How's it done again?? Yeah, I didn't think so. Seaweed 2, Jenny/Marshall 0.
Ah the trick was to bend the seaweed in half and then it easily snapped in two. Profit! =)
Hmm, guess I could have wrapped the seaweed around my hands a few more times. This maybe the longest jumprope I'd attempted to use.
Crossing over flipped my hood and hair so I couldn't see. But I did it! =)
A bunch of tiny birds that ran around in packs like baby velociraptors.
Even with it being a bit stormy the beach was absolutely beautiful.
Marshall and me on the beach, drenched from the rain but still smiling. =)
A bird that I thought I was all "bird whisperer" on but then realized he was likely sick. His feathers looked soaked which is never a good sign. =(
Me and my bird friend. Hopefully he was able to get the rest he needed so he could fly away and do normal bird stuff like run away when people approach him.
I love Ghirardelli chocolate!! Marshall digs into a Peanut Butter and Chocolate sundae with cookie dough ice cream. I had a malted milkshake which was awesome. Nice and icy, just the way I like it. =)
I don't know why but I always like this area behind the chain link fence. It's just kind of a cool area: grassy, rocky and you never know what you'll find back there.
Ok ready for a magic trick??
Woah, I totally just magically appeared out of thin air! Actually I was just trying to figure out positioning to do a timed photo of my Grandma, Marshall and me. I thought the two pictures in sequence were kind of cool though. =)
Me, Grandma and Marshall with her antique red lamp off to the left. I love that lamp. It makes me feel warmer when it's on and considering that Grandma didn't have the heater on when we go there, we needed all the warmth we could get. ;)
Another picture of me, Grandma and Marshall. Note all the handmade art in the house. I love that about Grandma's house. =)
