The beginning of the hike to the Summit starting from Mitchell Canyon Road parking lot. Mike brings up the rear, well technically it's me since I'm taking the pictures. =)
We look like ants following the scent of free food. There were 27 people on this hike, can you believe it?
Mike with his layered shirts, 3 bottles of water and sweatshirt (sweatshirt not pictured... it's in his backpack).
A view of the quarry.
Our newly initiated trail lead to the right in blue. Hey, is that Mac??
"V" helps to make sure everyone makes it to each junction. What a good leader. =)
Another view of the housing complexes just outside the park.
Mike smiling within spitting distance of the summit (see the station in the background?).
Me standing on some rocks, very rocky rocks.
Another birds-eye view of the area surrounding Mount Diablo.
Ok, so Mike believes there is an anchor lodged somewhere on the slopes of Mount Diablo from a munitions explosion in the 50s. Here he looks for said anchor.
Here he fake-finds said anchor. ;)
Ah, the summit so close and yet still far enough away to give our calves a great workout.
Uh, here Mike contemplates what to do with a handful of lotion. Apparently the air pressure difference between the top and bottom of the mountain created a situation where his suntan lotion bottle could not contain its contents.
Marker inside the summit lighthouse designating this location as the summit of Mt. Diablo.
"V" and the rest of the crew enjoy lunch on the observation deck.
Mike, "V", and me on the observation deck.
Our crew. Note especially excited guy in the middle. Yeah! Hiking rocks!!! =)
Self-shot picture of Mike and me at the summit.
Oh cool, nice random guy offered to take a picture of first work and now hiking buddies Mike and me. =)
It's Sherwood Forest!! Yep, that looks like a forest to me.
Now an adult, Mike is easily able to climb one of the trees in Sherwood Forest.
Mike investigates the viability of living in this cave.
Too late, I have already claimed this cave as my own. Perfect! =)
Beautiful and lush green ferns. I love ferns.
Mike still smiling after an awesome climb to the summit and back (~4000ft elevation).
Interesting dead leaves and logs near a creek bed.
Cool, there's actually water in this creek bed. Quick, take a picture before it dries up. ;)
Some trees and a babbling brook in the background. Oh wait, I was babbling, not the brook. You get the point though.
