Life and times in the 60's and 70's.
In the early 60's hootenanny groups were big. Local radio stations sponsored shows at local high schools, and they invited local groups to open for the big acts. This was my first brush with "celebrity"... I'm on the left with the gut bucket.
The group, the "Garrett Stairs Singers", played at local hotels as well. We also drove the 3 hours in the middle of the night down to New York City to listen to folk music at the coffeehouses on MacDougal Street.

A contemplative moment.
In one of the endless meetings in Fayerweather Hall during the 1968 Columbia University Strike . I'm at the top of the stairs. The picture is from the New York Times Magazine section. Sadly, I have not preserved the date.

Three close friends, in a photograph taken by a fourth dear friend, in 1968 or 1969. The statue is the icon Alma Mater, in front of Columbia's Low Library.

Two friends at Low Library on the Columbia campus.
The two friends lighten up a bit.
My friend went off to Florence, so I followed, where she had two of us vying for her affections. The fellow on the right was a Maoist from Iran (in the 1970's, a very dangerous thing to be).
A thoughtful moment on the steps of Santa Croce in Florence.
Back in New York, with hair re-grown.
A friend, one of the fellows in the coffeehouse pictures. Sadly, he has not survived.
