Skiing 09

Logan went downhill skiing today for the first time. I have to say he did quite well. We got him a private lesson and the people said not to expect him to get past the little bunny hill on his first time. After 45 minutes of learning the fundamentals of the ski plow (the pizza as they call it) on the little area by the lodge he was headed for the real ski lift! And he made it all the way down the mountain by himself until the last big drop where she held him and swooshed down the last hill. He said it was "totally awesome" and was so proud of himself for doing so well. We were proud too and will return for more lessons soon. Great day.

Halloween 09

it was a wicked cold and windy (gusts up to 75 mph) halloween - but we did it. Luke was especially a trooper and ran from house to house with the big boys. He really thinks he is just as capable as the rest - and he almost is! By the way - Logan was bobba fett bounty hunter, and Luke was Darth Vader (he picked) and Bridger was a baby.

Baby Bridger Bangerter was born today in Anchorage at 11:59. He is healthy, happy, tough and hungry. Nicole is feeling well and the boys are happy to have another brother here to pick on.

AK State Fair 09 and dog show

we got to go to the fair for free with our dog club. We showed the people what cool dogs german shepherds are - Logan showed some puppies and JB showed lil BEAR do some small tricks - then the big dogs came out and did their cool bite work. We had a great time.

Butte Hiking summer 09

Logan wanted to hike the Butte (a local small mountain) on Saturday. So I got my lazy fat butt off the couch and hiked it with him. He did a great job and is an exeptional rock climber and fireweed spotter. I am very proud of him for being such an interested and willing outdoor partner. He pretty much pulled me up this whole thing.

Kotzebue 09 Summer

a last minute crazy trip to the arctic village of Kotzebue. A really awesome trip and I even got to shoot a small caribou in July! This place is too complicated to explain - but these pics should give a good idea of the stark contrasts this area represents. The people were nice, the weather was hot and the beach 4 wheeler riding was awesome.

Summer Solstice 09

in honor of the great Norwegian tradition of having a big fire on the longest day of the year - we went for it. Even though the weather was rough - we lit the small amount we had and let er rip. I remember fires in Norway 30 feet tall - we were not quite that grand. But we tried.

Snorkling

some pics from our rented underwater camera. We snorkled in Molokini crater and then at turtle arches. The video of the turtles is the coolest. This was some awesome snorkling even if the pics are hard to reflect the real beauty of the underwater world.

our last minute and much needed trip to Maui! We had a great time - as shown by the ever present "shaka" symbol given by Logan in nearly every picture. Awesome weather, perfect beaches, great condo, and nothing to do but relax and have fun with the kids.

Alpine Creek Lodge Denali 09

15 Ptarmigan and 1 porcupine down on the latest Denali highway adventure. We stayed at Alpine Creek Lodge and rode in about 70 miles. Weather was not great but we had fun anyway. Gas out there was $6/gallon but it didnt stop us from having a great ride.

Iditarod 09

Spring is the time most think of a warm beach and a little break from work. We chose a frozen river, snowmachines, four kids hyped up on sugar and dog sleds. Iditarod 09 was a success! We rode 4 kids 30 miles in on the trail and stayed the night at a nice but rustic lodge on the river. We watched dog teams go by through the evening and had a great time. Not many kids can say they did this stuff at such a young age and all the dads were proud of their kids. Alaska rules. Lower 48 can't touch this place.

Maclaren River Lodge Denail Highway

a 42 mile trip across the Denali Highway my friends and I took over President's Day Weekend. We saw a lot of country, huge flocks of ptarmigan (of which we shot several with our new .17 HMRs) and had a great time at the MacLeran River Lodge. We will return here for sure!

Byers Lake Denali cabin February 09

our annual trip to Byers Lake cabin up in Denali State Park. Weather was good - lows -10 and higs around 8. The kids enjoyed snowmachining on the frozen lake and seeing great views of Denali and Mooses Tooth mountains. The cabin was very warm - contrast last years cabin which we could not get above 50 degrees. Overall a great trip - Luke's first big outting and he loved being outside more than anyone else. Logan was more into the cabin and playing card games (Uno) which he won. All said, a great trip!

deep freeze 08-09

we have had 2 weeks of double digit sub zero temps, breaking many records, cars and water pipes around here. Our cars have held up OK, and our house is still warms, but it has been a challenging but fun event. But we are ready for it to be over I think. The coldest we have gotten is -31.

Dad just started trapping, and while we have not caught any target species yet, or anything really cool, we have managed to snag a rabbit and a squirel. The kids got a kick out of it. Update in January -Dad finally got a fox-that makes two fox for this season!

Buffalo Hunt 08

our recent buffalo hunt up to Delta Junction where we were lucky enough to get a young bull after 5 days of seeing nothing but 70 moose! Then I shot a nice fox on the way home! Once in a lifetime hunt!

Cordova Hunting

a fall hunting trip to Cordova via Valdez. Lots of rain, huge glaciers, dead ducks, the bears would not hold still long enough to take some lead, and Cordova was an impressive yet wet town. Good times even though no moose in the freezer.

Denali Highway August 08

a last minute trip we took across the Denali highway. We saw moose, caribou, porcupine, black bears, swans, ducks, eagles, and the other small critters that live out there in the wilderness. I know these are mostly scenery shots - but that is what was so impressive about this trip - the scenery. The Denali highway is one of my favorite places in AK!

Bear Hunt 08

A PERFECT bear hunt in Kachemak Bay, near Homer AK. We all bagged nice bears with perfect coats. The weather was mostly sunny and hot, and I shot my bear within 30 minutes of landing on the beach.

Petersville April 08

some of the best riding of the year happens in April. Even though it is warm and feeling like spring back at home - up near Denali there is still plenty of winter to play with. This trip rocked - with temps in the high 40s and country as far as you could see in every direciton. Running out of gas finally turned us around after about 10 hours of playing! The one pic of me pointing is the ridge I almost drove off of, it does not look like much in the photo, but it would have really hurt going over it.

Iditarod 08

Iditarod 08 and the living is great. Warm temps in the high 20s, a nice fire and carribou hot dogs made this day great. We got so close to the action that we actually had to help untangle some of the dogs that got distracted with the smells of our camp. A great day in some spectacular country.

Yetna River snowmachine trip February 2008

a large group of mostly lawyers headed out to the backcountry during unseasonal 40 degree temps for a great trip up the Big Su and Yetna Rivers to a small lodge. We had a great time with only minor break downs and only got lost about 4 times. The map is a GPS of where we went. You can see where we got lost pretty good but then realized our error and found the way back - all thanks to the GPS!

Byersl Lake Cabin Trip February 2008

a cold but fun trip up to Denali in the dead of winter. Sub zere temps (-20) with wind chill to -40 and we were out on the lake a lot of the night hunting the elusive northern lights. Good times. We never could get the cabin warmer than 58 though. But 58 is better than -20!

a poached moose we helped salvage with the "road kill" program with the state. The meat went to good use and we learned a few moose gutting techniques. Logan used a butter knife that did not work out so well but he had fun.

Palmer House in Summer

Hatcher Pass camping

Roman, Richard and I took all the kids on a weekend camp trip up to Hatcher Pass. The trip started off with hot weather, and we found a nice island that we ferried all the kids and gear onto surrounded by a gentle creek. We awoke to fog and drizzle, but the kids did not mind and they still talk about!

Four wheeling 14 miles with a pregnant lady and a three year old is the way to spend a Saturday! This is Elutna Lake with our friends who have a kid who is friends with Logan. As you can see they got pretty carried away with the ice cream after the trip! A great trip!
