Ayla Jade - Birth and First Days

The birth and first few days of our beautiful daughter Ayla Jade Sylvia Sangster, born Nov 3rd, 2008 at 7:25pm. She weighed 8lbs and 5 oz and was 21.25 inches long. She is so perfect!

The rains have started, its getting cool, Jason spends his weekends watching football and Leigh's belly grows ever bigger! Must be fall. We went up to some local orchards recently to pick fruit and flowers. Our garden is growing ang giving. Enjoy!

Leigh's Parents Visit

Laine & Fab's Wedding, 07-30-07

My dear, old friend Laine got hitched this summer. She got married on the Jewish day of Av (the day of Love), July 30th. It was spectacular and emotional and FUN! I had a great time hanging in the Carbondale/Aspen valley for a few days, making new friends and reconnecting with old ones. Congrats Laine Luv! Enjoy.

While I was waiting for Leigh to return from Tibet, I took a nice long vacation in the gorgeous state of Colorado. There I hung with old friends, made some new ones and enjoyed the sunny mountain state (if I didn't have so many ex girlfriends living there, Leigh and I just might be moving here instead of Portland!). Lhasa Horse Race

Every year on the 3rd day of Losar (Tibetan New Year) a very short but very amazing horse festival takes place at the Lhasa Race Track. Most of the riders you see here are students at the Lhasa Sports Center and the oldest one might be about 18 years old!

A Walk in the Phenpo Valley

Leigh and I went for a 3 day hike in the Phenpo Valley, which is located just north of the Lhasa Valley. We visited Langtang & Nalandra Monasteries and Shar Nunnery. It was a gorgeous place and almost 100% Tibetan!

The Metal Pour

A group of Tibetan metalsmiths, with the guidance of a couple of Newari (Nepali) artists, are re-learning the Lost Wax Method of statue making. Here they are melting copper scrap in coal fired home-made smelters and pouring into their previously made molds.

Lhasa Rocks Out

This was the premier of a new Tibetan hard rock band, Guge. And so to mark the celebration, they invited a few friends. There were 6 bands in all, including the two most renowned - Zimig Gupa and Vajara. Most of the songs were either Tibetan or Chinese, but there were several very interesting English covers - Knockin' on Heaven's Door (both the Dylan AND Guns N Roses versions, Don't you Cry (Guns N Roses), It Ain't Easy (The Eagles) and my favorite, I'm a Creep (Radiohead).

Contemporary Tibet

My most recent body of work. I'm planning on turning this into a larger book, hopefully about 150 photos or so. I want to show that Tibet is a very real place with beauty, ugliness. As I like to say, it's not all monks and mountains!
