I dropped my Xtracycle off the car rack a few months back, so I had to do some repair work before I could fit the Wide Loader into the damaged socket.
I got it, though, and both Wide Loaders were ready for action.
John loads a pump onto the Packet Boat.
Just about ready to go.
We decided to add the trailer to the Packet Boat so we could pack a few more comforts.
Storing energy for the trip...
Anybody hungry?
Bernie is his own greatest amusement.
"What, Dad?"
"Man, I'm cute!"
Right before departure
Keep smilin'!
Stopped in front of the Humanities School.
The Packet Boat was about 8 or 9 feet long on this trip.
Looking out over the Normanskill valley as the storm approaches on Friday evening.
Do you think we outran these clouds?
Waiting under the overhang at the library for the rain to pass. (It didn't.)
The Packet Boat was so long that only the front would fit under the overhang.
This isn't a bike path, but it was so little used that it made the trip through Delmar more pleasant. In, I might add, the rain.
Bernie's toughin' out the rain.
Insane!
Arriving at Five Rivers. Soggy but happy.
Heading over to our campsite at Five Rivers.
Ready for my close-up.
This really is the only way to travel.
A barn at Five Rivers, which started out as a CCC camp during the New Deal Era.
Passing the barn.
Our tent is set up, the rain has stopped, and we're ready for fun!
Bernie explores the tent.
Xtracycle camping!
Jen consults the itinerary for the evening, with the pavilion in the background. That's where we stored the bikes overnight.
Allie, a Student Naturalist at Five Rivers, plays with Molly.
Jake. Bernie and Jake played together the whole time.
Two boys and a ball.
Fun in the ... um ... sun?
Allie, John, Molly and Molly's mom, Kristin.
Allie and John. John took quite a shine to her.
John also took quite a fall into a mud puddle.
Anita, who led us on a nature walk. She works for the NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation, which manages Five Rivers.
On our nature walk.
Only six of the 10 families showed up for the camping outing -- the rain kept the others away.
What a gorgeous spot.
Looking for deer -- we saw several.
Slug!
My patented Three Weenie Roaster (TM). That's right, it was a -- wait for it -- Three Dog Night!
Down Low Glow in the pavilion.
The moon. It was gorgeous, but I never captured a good shot with my POS camera.
Waking up on Saturday morning.
More playing!
Packed up!
The breakfast buffet.
John, Bernie, Molly and Jake.
A gorgeous farmhouse near Five Rivers.
Heading home!
Bernie said, "What's written on those stones?" I said, "The names of the people buried under them." He asked, "Were they all presidents?"
We brought a Daddy Long-Legs back with us.
Unpacked in the backyard!
