Pee Em
Oh shit! I fell asleep while Jamie and most of the family was at a movie and when I woke, I realized the place was a DISASTER. First the dishes.
C rap on a cracker; there is stuff left from last night's dinner! Cockroaches will love us.
Oops; we're out of water. Pike volunteers to see if he can get some from the garrafon at the palapa. I'll get a new garrafon tomorrow.
Dishes are done and now I'm tackling the disaster of the dining table. This is Jamie's shirt closet in the boys' bunkroom.
Pikey's side of the room; I asked him to clean it this morning.
Jesse's side. No, he didn't clean it. Maybe I'll do it fo him tomorrow as a birthday present. He really HATES to clean.
Dining area cleaned up.
Pikey volunteers to sweep and vaccum while one of the Star Wars movies plays.
What a freaking disaster. The girls use this room to play in (where I and Ellen sleep) and I can never keep it clean.
Reminder to get a new garrafon (empty water bottles), garbage to take out in the am, and Jesse is back from the movie (popcorn).
Dishes done. Kitchen clean.
Jamie, Sissy and Ellen come home from movie. Ellen found “Fantastic Four” boring. She fell asleep during Pirates III so I'm surprised she's awake.
About 5 minutes after Ellen comes home, she's asleep.
the other kids don't seem to find Star Wars #gazillion so interesting
Jamie and Sissy are in bed
I'm going to bed
No wonder I get chilled at 80F.
About 6am; I woke at 5:40 without the alarm. Better than 2am and unable to sleep. Looking out the window in my bedroom.
Start the puter in bed (normally it is on the dining room table, waiting for me to work) and see what time it is.
I tried to go back to sleep at 5:40 but couldn't; might as well get some work in.
Jamie wakes for the first time (I'm already working in the DR/kitchen/his bedroom)
Happy birthday teenager! Usually, Jesse is the first up in the family. He'll probably be on the computer now until everyone awakes.
Sweet elixir of life. I generally wait until someone is awake before I brew; living in a trailer makes my workspace the diningroom, kitchen and Jamie's bedroom.
Pikey's awake; I'm not sure if he got Jamie's computer or not. I think not. The boys play Runescape from wake until 10am.
Jamie fell back to sleep; listening to Howard (gag) Stern.
Ellen is still sleeping
Happy birthday Jesse! Ellen still asleep.
Boys bonding; Ellen is still asleep.
Ellen woke, dressed and brought out her horse.
Singing Happy Birthday to Jesse
I tried to buy two garrafones of water but they are out. A neighbor let me have one until the water truck arrives.
Jesse wants to go to the store and get breaky and food for the day. Off we head to Soriana.
Well, we're not leaving all that soon; Jamie ran over Sissy's bike when he came home from the movie last night.
Got the bike out and we're heading out of the park
Guard shack on the way out of the park; they're pretty tight on security here.
Road from PaaMul to the carretera
MX307 (the carretera)
Dim your lights.
This is how you get trucks and cars over to Cozumel
I've never seen this anywhere but here; the speed limit is enforced very strongly
Only in Playa del Carmen and never have we seen this anywhere else in Mexico; we make our U turn from the left lane instead of the far right lateral.
Jesse chose the store; my favorite is Super Maz (much smaller) in town. Soriana is just on the outskirts.
guanabana, guayaba, pimiento and I think that's it. Guanabana is REALLY expensive; like 40 pesos/kilo
Just produce in the carrito so far and a present on the bottom. Eggs are along the back wall.
Checkout. A record spend this time. Normally we spend around 600 pesos; today we spend 1400!!!
OMFG! THe back of the van is so full we have to reorganize to put the groceries in.
Cold stuff in the (blue) cold bag and we're ready to go
I hope we get back in time to say goodbye to Katie!
Home; but we need to go to a retorno as we can't make a left with the new road.
making our retorno
Road to PaaMul from the carretera
Katie says Happy Birthday to Jesse
Heading down the road to our palapa
this is where we're staying until our palapa is complete
Katie says goodbye to Sissy
Fresh tortillas!
Katie says goodbye to the boys
bye bye Katie!
Party supplies - washed
Chlorinated water to rinse dishes in
Ellen takes a cereal break on the hammock in our new bedroom
Don Beto takes a break from clearing our neighbor's backyard; he enjoyed the watermellon we gave him
Jamie works. I stupervise. I'm a bit bushed. It's almost 1pm
I'm going to try to discourage ants in the palapa kitchen with Cal.
We'll see if it works.
The carpintero came by to talk about cabinets. We're not sure if we'll get them before or after the hurricane season. He'll come back later with samples of the wood and photos of his work.
Only six kids in the trailer this afternoon. It is Jesse's birthday and he is king so they're playing Runescape. Or something.
AFternoon, about 2:15 and I'm tired. I take a little snooze in the hammock while Jamie cleans the floor. We take our siestas seriously in the tropics.
I decide to make a loaf of bread after the last loaf collapsed when the palapa power went out.
Kids are gone but they left quite a mess. Should I even try to clean it up?
Time to start dinner; Jesse wants to eat around 6pm. He really wanted Mac n Cheese from a box; we regularly make it with real cheese but on his birthday he gets the box(es).
Dinner spread at the palapa kitchen. Two kitchens means I CONSTANTLY carry stuff back and forth.
Our new friends (and the boys' constant companions) pray before eating. I hope this wasn't sacreligious...
Jesse gets a machete from Jaymen and Laughlin
He must then USE the damn thing!!!
Sissy and Laughlin in the hammock. He just turned 9; she will be 8 in September.
What a lousy picture. The candles are 1 and 7; I could not find a 3 or find small single candles.
Jamie rights the falling over “7”.
Girls, high on sugar, play in the street
I'm beyond tired, but still have to clean up and take a shower.
what a mess
clean
clean; thanks for the help Pike.
