From Sharm we went on a one day trip to Petra flying out early in the morning. It is massive and not simply the one temple you see in most photos. A few hours wasn't nearly enough time. Every corner was a new world to explore and simply the most amazing place I have been to thus far in my life.
This is the start of the walk into Petra which takes a good 30 minutes or more. You pass many different landscapes and dwellings during this visit.
Old transport with modern texting
Show off
After a while you walk for ages between narrow steep canyon walls
Some carvings that remain
Natural erosion
And then what we've been waiting for but as you go beyond this temple it only gets better and more impressive
On the way back make sure you have time for more photos as the light would have changed
Inside the temple
From the temple
Fat lazy tourist mode of transport - I hated how poorly the donkeys were treated. If you can't make it up 300 steps why should a poor donkey suffer under your big arse being bullied and whipped by their owner. Very bad people don't go to hell - they become these donkeys.
Round the corner from the main famous temple
Out into this wonderful space full of cave dwellings and an ampitheatre
The work of another civilisation and another settlement just as you thought it couldn't be more impressive
Even when climbing the 300 steps to the top of the mountain that looks over the settlements you come across someone selling tacky shit.
Just the start of the 300 steps. No way we had time as we had to rush back to the coach to make the flight back to Egypt.
Lunch with a view
Travelling back to the airport
Cool - they appreciate South Park too
