Our B&B in Seattle
The table is set for breakfast
The living room
I wonder who they voted for?
Time for our first day in Seattle
Autumn did already start in Washington state, haven't noticed it in California though
Isn't autumn wonderful.....sigh......
Look at all those colourful trees
and the artistic waterfall
No it wasn't Robert this time, it is funny though
Cool american sign, can you read it?
Finally reached the Pike Place Market
Starbucks had to start somewhere, this is their first shop in America
This is what it looked like in those days (did you guys know they actually bought the beans from Peets for the first couple of years. Now they own Peets)
But there is lot's more! Cheese and
(monk)fish
and crab
yummie clam chowder with 2 spoons!
and lot's of places to stick your.....
yes indeed: GUM in all the colours of the rainbow
bye bye Pike Place Market
Let's explore the city center a bit further. Hey that is a familiar “face” doesn't your little brother live at Mission Bay?
Really cool architecture (please don't tumble over...)
Of course we had to visit the new library by a Dutch architect. It is so cool, they got a spiral going down without stairs. Super wheelchair friendly, with little corners that are student friendly and (what everybody craves for in a library) a decent coffeeshop.
Did we mention all the natural light? Needless to say, we loved it. Apparantly you either love it or hate it.
The famous space needle next to the Experience Music project
The view from the top is great
Alongside the tree lined street runs the monorail
Seattle by night
Back during the day again
Seattle and it's ferry boats
The Experience Music project from the top. This building was inspired by mollesting a couple of guitars and well....just make it bigger!
Check out the orbital olive, astronaut white and galaxy gold paint. Seriously? Yes..... seriously....
This can't be happening....
Can it?
What are you shooting?
Autumn in Seattle.
What's next? A movie maybe?
Or a beer?
Maybe re-fuel?
Square dance
or play some music?
Being good Dutchies we hopped on a bike (of course)
Look where we ended up:
an old factory used as a park nowadays
Nice shot Robert
Did I mentioned helmets are required by law in Washington? Even though the last time I dropped from my bike I was 3 years old I was a good (dorky) girl and wore the helmet.
Sunscreen, did I mention sunscreen? Always wear sunscreen. In Seattle it only rains in the 352 days that we are not there....
A gigantic pacifier
Niet? Echt wel! (I am sorry this one is only funny in Dutch....)
Last day of our trip this sign caught our attention and we went in...
....the underground from Seattle. The place to be for woman looking for carreer oppurtunities within a city which has 80% men.
Luckily they did install the first ...
....washdown closets in combination with the...
CRAPPER!!
Yup the wooden plumbing ended up being a bit of a problem with 200 crappers connected to these babies. This in combination with the tide coming in could result in an interesting toilet experience. That is why the newspapers started to print the tide schedule, very usefull in these days.
Next time you walk over one of these in Seattle, be aware there is a whole city below!
