MATKA PIR: As you drive towards th Purana Quila, what catches your eye is a tree that looks like it is growing pots. This is the Dargah of Matka Shah where young couples often come to make a wish. Once a wish is fulfilled the wish-maker is required to offer a matkas(earthern pots)filled with jaggery,dried grams and other ingredients to the caretaker. This custom dates back to a legend of an ailing traveller who was cured when the dargah's pir offered him water in a matka.
Shiva's Devotees Carrying Ganjes Water
During monsoon hundred of thousands Devotees of Shiva dressed in Orange color walk from 200 to 400km and bring Ganjes Water from the Ganges River in Haridwar and offer to the Shivlingam of a temple in their village, which fulfulls their wishes.
