Update: Go to http://eeemac.blogspot.com/ for my blog on what I did It works well, thanks for a few good hints from around the net. I have it dual booting the linux it came with and OSX. Works: Wifi, OS X, USB, SD, and most things. Not working Ethernet port, camera. Boots in 40 seconds, geekbench 904. Vist YoYoGuy.com, since I own it and it's cool :)
Tthe case mod was done with parts from a dead donor Lombard Powerbook Laptop. It looked so lonely without the glowing apple on the back. I cut a hole in the case and glued on a square section from the back of the lombard case. The plastic the eee case is made from is not friendly to accurate machining. It came out cool. Next: Internal 3G support. I hope to do that next week or the week after.
The apple on the rear lights up. I have a dead Lombard G3 laptop, and I planned to remove to translucent apple and inset it on the rear of this laptop. The plastic on the EEE's cover is much thicker than that of the Lombard, and it does not mill all that cleanly. Instead I cut the center out of the lombard's cover with a japanese blind saw and a strait edge, and I cut a hole in the cover of the eee with a series of drilled holes for the outline and a case nibbler to remove the excess plastic. Most if not all LCD laptop monitors glow from the back, so I positioned the logo where it could be backlight (I could not center it due to parts being in the way and blocking light). It now lights up whenever the computer is on. It makes me feel at home. If apple made a laptop this format I'd be the first to get one. The keyboard by the way, while small is easy to adapt to.
