"Recognize rural women as stakeholders and decision makers," ECOSOC ministers agree
Ministers and high-level officials from 30 countries, meeting in New York for the High-level Segment of ECOSOC, signaled their support for recasting the image of rural women from that of beneficiaries or aid recipients to that of stakeholders and managers. The officials were among some 75 guests at a 29 June luncheon, which had as its theme "From Dialogue to Action: Empowering Rural Women in Agriculture." The luncheon, which was part of the official ECOSOC programme, was organized by IFAD, FAO, and WFP. IFAD's role in organizing the event helps to fulfill the commitment undertaken by its President when accepting the MDG 3 torch in 2009.
