3R@1 @ Port Dickson

4D3N Combined PWF + DYB and something Chinese something retreat at Avillion Resort at Port Dickson. A truly restful time where I slept for 16hrs straight thanks to the wonders of modern medicine that really does little else but cause one to sleep. hah! Got to know a bunch of truly decent God-chasers and am further inspired to keep running the race alongside the many.

Dinner at Sunset Bar & Grill

Dinner organised by Karen and Andy within the rather secluded and this inaccessible Seletar Airport area. The reason for the hike was what is touted to be the "world's best buffalo wings"! It was pretty tasty and the level 3 spiciness left my tongue numb so really i cannot imagine what 10 would be like!

Cape Tribulation & Daintree Rainforest

Another daytrip - out to Cape Tribulation and to the Daintree Rainforest as well. More beautiful waterfalls and scenery within the rainforest, alot of up-close-and-personal with aussie creatures and critters too!

Kuranda

Daytrip to Kuranda in a Scenic Railway Train. The day starts off with a stop at Kuranda town centre where there's food and plenty of souvenir stores. Next up is a visit to the Koala Nursery followed by a DUK tour where the amphibious war vehicle takes us on a tour of the rainforest before entering the river swamps to point out other life the occurs on the edge of the river bank. I snap photos with a Koala and a baby Crocodile and visit an Animal Reserve as well as the PAMAGURI Cultural Centre - an aboriginal cultural centre where we're entertained by their colourful dances before being taught to play the didgeridoo, throw spears and boomerangs! The day comes to a close when we take a cable car all the way down.

Whitsunday Islands

Hamilton Island Resort....lush bedroom, huge tropical pool on the ground floor that looks out into the ocean on the beach. Transport on the island is by buggy (kindda like bintan - only much more ATAS) and it was fairly uncrowded, making it a really lovely break for me actually!

Airlie Beach + Dives

Spent a couple days here chilling on the beach and reading the (then) new final installment of Harry Potter...Airlie Beach Town Centre is pretty chilled out.....a coupla good Cafes and Restaurants to hang out at. Village cafe serves up a mean Eggs benedict (I had it twice!!) And did a coupla dives out on the reef from here.

Sydney '07

I spent a week in Sydney, revisiting old haunts from my '06 trip and catching up with a very special friend.....eventually sharing lots of laughs, cocktails, strange foods and normal ones too..and...SALAD. Yes one. hahaha! Plus hanging with some of the perth peeps I hadn't seen in awhile and what not so all in all, great fun, nice to be back there.

Exmouth Roadtrip

Starting from Perth, we drove along the 1300kms up Great Eastern, Roe, Brand and Great Coastal Northern Highways stopping at Geraldton and Kalbarri on the way up to Exmouth where we spend 9 days and stopover at Monkey Mia (Shark Bay) before heading back down to Perth. Highlights include: swimming with whalesharks, diving out at the Murion Islands, drift snorkelling off turqoise bay at Cape Range National Park, deep-sea fishing in Exmouth, eating, eating and more eating along the way in the car, in our rooms, fresh seafood, etc...also worship sessions and song-writing nights. Oh! And sandfly attacks!!!

Thanks to the wonderful family that have taken her in, I'm allowed to go visit her and spend time frolicking in their yard with her and also got to take her out for a full day two weeks after my return where I took her to our old hangout at Lake Monger and also to Fremantle for lunch and ice cream and then to Leighton Beach to watch the sunset before we headed back north to her home.

Namosi Highlands

I did a day trip with Rivers Fiji that included an hour-long 4wd bus ride up to the lush green forests Namosi Highlands clouded in mist and fog with a stop and walk-through one of the villages (Nakavika) where we had a sevu sevu (kava-drinking ceremony) at the Village Chief's house. I then spent the next two hours almost freezing as I tried to navigate my inflatable kayak down the whitewater of the river and eventually got picked up by a motorised longboat that brought everyone back to where the bus would pick us up and take us back downstream!

Coral Coast

I spent one night at Tambua Sands Resort at Korolevu and another two nights at Tsulu at Pacific Harbour...both towns are along Viti Levu's southern coast, otherwise known as the Coral Coast (you'll find out why when you look at the photos). The highlight here would have to be the shark dive I did at Beqa lagoon (accessible by boat from Pacific Harbour).

It all started with Sarah said she might be going to the game later that evening....and the day ensued with all sorts of things in between but eventually, she and Jake didn't end up going but Jade, Angel, Ryan, Tim, Leanna and Melanie went and witnessed the Brewers' brutal thrashing of the Dodgers. It was still a whole lot of fun though!!

Huntington Beach

Monday being our designated rest day...we headed out to the beach after a yummy lunch of Vietnamese Pho (raw beef and meat ball noodle) at Mama Dang's. We stopped at Jack in the Box - my first visit there on this trip - for some biscuits and Oreo Shake (that tasted as good as it did 10 years ago) and had a really good time at the beach and then had a dramatic copper pull-over incident on our way back!

Adopt A Block

Adopt-a-Block is a Dreamcenter/Angelus Temple ministry that goes out consistently week after week to knock on doors, shower love on the community and to literally adopt them as family through prayer, providing necessities and etc. I just went with Jade on Shelly's site...and he's been faithfully visiting the site for the last 8 years...talk about commitment huh! Jade serves a little street on the corner of Kent and Bonnie Brae and so I just attached myself to her and knocked the same doors. Doing this has taught me that solid relationships can be built in the space of 25 days, relationships that are empowered by favour and a genuine love, relationships that can change a person's life in their time of need. A monthly activity that Adopt-A-Block does is "Random Acts of Kindness" which I did one saturday, with Sharon, Ryan and Leanna....they did all sorts of "kind" giveaways, like paying for people's petrol, giving out iced lemonade or water, ice-cream and lollies and also did a free car

Jade's Birthday

Jade turns 25 and I managed to fly in just the night before - didn't actually plan it that way but it was pretty cool to get in and then be a part of her special day! From picking up food to getting the meat, marinating the meat, preparing the dessert (and actually getting to eat pavlova and trifle - both of which I haven't had since I left perth in Dec 06) and just getting to know all the people who've been a part of her life here in LA for the last 7+ months.

Samara - Days Four to Seven

Highlights here include a day hanging out with Liz whose name is really spelt Lies...haha! Watching a sunset on the beach, horses galloping across whilst being chased by dogs, hanging out with Erick and his dogs Pipo and Kira, howler monkeys in the trees...dodging them because they were trying to pee/crap on us, and heading to Carillo for my flight back to San Jose.

Playa Buena Vista

THe beach just north of Samara, about a 45minute walk from town, but we hitched a ride on a deah-trap (you have to see it to believe it) and got there in a quarter of the time. We had to cross a river that we were told had crocs in it at high-tide in order to get to the beach...where the highlight was a Turtle Hatchery Project...kindda cool!

A little town on the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica, home to a national park that had loads of monkeys that I didn't get to see because I was confined to the hotel for rest after my collapse on our first night there.

Cana Negro Wildlife Refuge

A 50-dollar daytrip that included coach transport to and from the Rio Frio (cold river) - during which we passed numerous pineapple, papaya, plantain and yuca (tapioca) plantations and a boat ride upstream and then back down. It was a very beautiful day and we did get to see a bunch of animals including iguanas, caymans, howler monkeys, spider monkeys, basilisks (lizards), a whole lot of birds, some tortoises and cattle drinking by the river.

We spent 2 nights at Eco Arenal, a lodge about 2km out of La Fortuna. Highlights here include the volcano arenal, several flat tyres, a trip to the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge (those photos in the same-name album) and an evening in town.

Monteverde

Somewhere in the northern area of Costa Rica, home to a cloud rainforest and various canopy activities in and above the the rainforest. Highlights in this album include Apollo (a 4yr old male husky), kissing swans on the bed, the zip wire adventure where we fly over rainforest treetops connected to steel cables by pulleys and hooks attached to waist and thigh harnesses.

Gold Museum

For a US7 entry fee, I sure did get to see alot of gold! More interesting was an exhibition detailing the campaigns (wars) Costa Rica had been involved in during the course of history as well as the art exhibition that was taking place on the second floor and last but not least, the many colourful tales told of Costa Rican indigenous people of ages past.

Granada

We spent three days in Granada, a beautiful colonial town...I think it's the oldest town in Central America. There's a lake within walking distance and the whole town is walkable (we had a city walking tour). Biggest feature in this album is probably the fact that you get a shot of me in the dress - and you can actually see all of it! haha :p

Mayan Ruins of Copan

Copan is unique in the Maya realm for its emphasis on sculpture: 1. The most numerously carved commemorative stellae and altars 2. Many complex stone sculptures decorating the buildings 3. Elaborate stucco facades (the four decorated sides of the Rosalila) 4. The monumental Hieroglyphic stairway that has the longest inscribed text at any Maya site 5. All of the above are sculpted in a flamboyant style, and frequently in deep, nearly full-round relief

Panajachel

Panajachel, at 1600m above sea level, is one of 13 villages around the lake - Lago Atitlan - which is surrounded on all sides by lush green hills and three volcanoes - Volcan San Pedro, Atitlan and Toliman. It's cooler here than it was in Antigua or Guatemala...and the hotel I'm in has a private beach that opens out onto the lake..haha!

Volcan de Pacaya

We drove out in the van for about 2hrs and then hiked for close to 3hrs up to where a stream of red-hot lava was flowing down the side and we could not only see but feel the heat in the air. Flames in fissures and glowing red-hot rock embers were some of the highlights!

Antigua

Antigua has a completely different feel to Guatemala City...it is obviously a greater magnet for tourists and there are hotels on every street with all sorts of travellers wandering the peaceful yet lively streets amidst colonial ruins. Highlights include 'The Sirens' Call' (a 250 yr old fountain in parque central), Plaza Mayor, Palacio del Noble Ayuntamiento, the main Cathedral and numerous churches and ruins like La Merced, San Carlos, San Pedro and etc... Also, look out for the men running around in purple robes - only happens on the one sunday a week before easter's resurrection sunday.

Guatemala City

A really old city...it felt really impoverished to me afte the oppulence of Europe and the United States. And evil and horrible as it may sound...it actually reminds me of Malaysia - no I'm not being rude...it really did bring back memories of some Malaysian trips I'd been on!! It's really bustling with life though, and all the spanish cackling in your ears gives the city a real upbeat and lots-of-things-going-on feel. The markets sell EVERYTHING you can imagine and what you don't find in the market you'll find out on the streets on 7 days a week pasar-malam-styled stalls.

La Aurora Zoo

With admission prices of Q18.00 (S$3.60), this zoo was pretty impressive, housing lions, tigers, pumas, jaguars, hippopotamus, an aviary full of birds including flamingoes, monkeys, bears, deer, buffalo, pigs, miniature lions and monkeys, meerkats (cute babies and mummy), a nocturnal house, and loads of little creatures that I hadn't seen before. You have to look out for my favourite animal of the day (or even year)...the Mapache - I'm not sure what it's called in english because I haven't seen one before; it might be a raccoon. The Pizote came a close second...it was also a little animal (about the same size as the mapache and it was real friendlyand inquisitive...it came right up to the fence to paw my camera and shake my hand! Only it wasn't as cute as the Mapache...hahaha! I'm biased....looks do matter ;)

New York City

Huge bustling city with so much going on that you could never take in all of it in an entire lifetime (I think so anyway). Highlights in this album include Times Square, Broadway, Ground Zero (former site of World Trade Centre Towers), Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island, Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn, Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden, Central Park, Fifth Avenue and loads of other things going on in the city...

Ithaca with Jeremy

Took a 5hr bus up to Ithaca to visit Jem who's on exchange at Ithaca College....didn't do much the first night coz it was already 10pm by the time I arrived. We spent the next day ambling around Ithaca Commons and took a short bus ride up to Ithaca Falls..we were goin to a restaurant by the lake for dinner but decided against it and ate at a local grill instead. That night I caught the 1:30am bus back to NYC so this pretty much all that I did in Ithaca... :D

Lake District

Terry and Mike had taken friday off work and we all went on a daytrip to the Lake District. Amazing scenery of hills (even snow-capped ones), valleys and lakes. Highlights included lunch at a traditional chippy and feeding ducks, geese and swans at the two lakes in Keswick and Windermere. Michael made me feed them out of my hand rather than scatter them (like Ann was doing) and it was kindda weird...not painful but not entirely pleasant either...He loved it though, he was having such a great time! It was a great day...couldn't think of a better way to spend my last day with the Bell family.

Jem in Liverpool

My cousin Jeremy dropped by in Liverpool for a night whilst on his spring break from Ithaca College, New York. He arrived in Liverpool from Paris only minutes after my flight from geneva touched down at Liverpool's John Lennon airport, dissing the sad state of Liverpool...hahha rude boy! But anyway, we had fun visiting a gastropub for lunch, had a huuuuuge roast dinner made by Mike's mum and then had a lame night out in Liverpool. Big english breakfast in the morning followed by a mad rush to buy prima taste stuff then onto a train to London to catch his plane to New York. Barely made it :)

Husky Sledding @ Urnerboden

I travelled close to 6 hours by train to get to Urnerboden - almost didn't make it coz the last bus left Linthal 5 minutes early (i saw it pull away as my connecting train arrived)...but I got there eventually and spent the next day frolicking in the snow with 12 beautiful huskies!

Sachsenhausen

Sachsenhausen was a "model" concentration camp opened eons ago, and obviously been closed for ages too. The atmosphere was grim, somber; it's hard not to let it get to you. Looking at the photos and reading about everything that happened back then, particularly at the "killing station" where there were photos and descriptions of how they were gassed enmasse...so yeah, click in only if you've got the stomach and mood for it. I left the place feeling incredibly drained

Eastside Gallery - The Wall

What remains standing of the wall built in 1961 that separated East and West Berlin for over 28 years. The little bit of it that remains is about 300m long and runs between Warschauer Strasse and Ostbahnof in Friedrichshain and has been given over to graffiti artists to turn into a permanent open-air gallery.

Berlin - Days 1 & 2

First 2 days spent in Berlin - here mainly to catch up with my mate Jules, with whom I became firm friends with whilst "suffering" together at college in Perth for a year. I jumped at the chance to drop by in Berlin to visit her whilst galavanting around Europe. Berlin's alot bigger than I expected, and german sounds alot funnier than I last remembered. My hostel here is pretty good and i've had really decent sleep. Anyway, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves :)

Michael and I went on a daytrip to Skipton on saturday (24 Feb) to try UK's best fish and chips...it definitely lived up to expectations! It's also a nice little town with lots of olde-style small buildings...lots of character!

Chinese New Year

I was still sick and that, but jsut coz Chinese New Year was coming round and I was miles away from home and also coz Mike's famliy obviously NEVER celebrated CNY, I decided to cook a meal and part of it included making Peking Duck from scratch! It was such a tedious preparation process but it was sooooo yum and definitely a success! What can I say? I'm going out with the sweetest guy in the whole wide world, who gives me the nicest sweetest things, and I in exchange, gave him nothing. Except a warning that he could catch the "plague" (he named my condition that) from me.

Chateau de Versailles

Home to France's King and Queen of ages past....very oppulent and amazing gardens round the back :D I liked some paintings, particularly that of King Louis the something....the one who was 5 when he ascended the throne - do you say ascended? haha! Check out the chapel and opera too..pretty impresseive!

Paris

I got to the hostel easy enough with the directions Mike printed for me and about 10 minutes after I got in, 2 girls checked into the same room...I spent the next two days walking around Paris with them, visiting the major sights. It was great coz one of them spoke french - which made everything so much easier. Great company for a great city...what more could I ask for?

Our Anniversary

The surprise that almost wasn't - thanks to cancelled ryanair flight. But I made it anyway the following day and though I had to push france to a little later, I got to spend several days with Mike and his family. The shock on his face was unreal....haha! So worth it!!

Bergamo

I only spent one night and half a day here at Bergamo - which was where I had to detour to when my flight to Liverpool out of Treviso (Venice) got cancelled. It was a nightmare but thankfully, God sent me some angels in the form of 2 wonderful couples who were also on the same cancelled flight, who also subsequently chose to train it to Bergamo and catch the afternoon flight to liverpool the following day...and they sorta adopted me - or you could say I just latched onto them ;) When I woke in the morning, Bergamo was sunny with clear blue skies and I had several hours to kill before the flight so I walked around a little and in here you'll get to see some snapshots of the town/city - it's beautiful I have to say...what little I got to see of it impressed me! :)

Murano

Birthplace of venetian hand-blown glass, Murano is another island about 30 minutes away by Vaporetti and surprisingly, while it's glass products are incredibly expensive, food is pretty cheap!

Lido

A strip of land close to Venice...accessible by Vaporetti, Venice's public transport sytem on waters. I spent just awhile walking round the island looking at whatever there was to see. I got to play with scot though, a husky with readdish-brown markings....he was cute..and lotsa fun!
