Magwi County Tree Nurseries Project

People in Magwi County are very poor and 99% of them live in rural areas. Wood is a part of life, and also there is pressure to clear forests for agriculture. The current way of life is not sustainable. Wood is always treated as a free resource, and vast areas of woodland have been cleared carelessly without replanting for future generations. This deforestation also leads to soil erosion, land degradation and ultimately climate change which is and will have a devastating effect. This project sets up 130 nurseries.

The Onura sub village is facing a severe water crisis. Ongoing droughts have left the village’s 1,560 people with a seriously limited water supply.

Onura Maternal Survival Project

Each year, many women die in childbirth in Onura sub village Sudan. 99% of these deaths are due to lack of childbirth facilities and hemorrhage which is a common cause worldwide. Bleeding can be controlled in a clinic, but our aim is to provide traditional midwives a childbirth delivery bed to save lives in a local clinic where most births take place. This is also where most maternal deaths occur in Onura sub village –well beyond the reach of hospitals and government health services.

Onura Clean Cookstoves Project

The project will be setting up 10 small groups of women in ONURA sub village Sudan to make fuel efficient cookstoves. These stoves use about 95% less wood than traditional cooking ways.
