The Life and Hope office on the grounds of Wat Damnak in Siem Reap town centre
Life and Hope mission and vision statement
The sewing school attached to the office where disavantaged adults can come to learn valuable skills for future employment... it was closed for the New Year break.
When we arrived at the orphanage, the children were watching a movie (in English) on a tiny dvd player... (they don't speak English apparently, but they were transfixed none-the-less)
Battery operated!
Solar powered kettle...
Little boy running to catch up with us
“Children's Development Village Agriculture Farm”... growing food for the children to eat
Derek with kids
Chen, 11 years old had only recently arrived at Life and Hope children's village. She seemed to be coping well with her new environment.
The kids love the monks, and vice versa!
Some of the little houses the kids live in... about 7 in each
A classroom
The music room
The board of children... most of them have sponsors. There currently about 44 children living there.
Chen and another little boy
Me and Chen after she sang me a beautiful Khmer song
The kitchen
Lunch time. Rice, papaya salad and beef skewers...
Inside one of the girls' houses. They sleep on grass mats on the floor.
The playground
The nearby junior high school set up by Life and Hope, offering free education to local children
A hostel for girls in Siem Reap town, enabling them to stay on at school when distance would have otherwise prevented them from doing so. They are sitting in the same area where they sleep on grass mats at night
Desks where they can do their homework as well as receive English lessons when volunteers are available.
Derek and Frankie looking at the girls' schoolwork
From the left, the Life and Hope monks who hosted us for the day (2nd from left is Chuen - smiling broadly!)... Then Frankie, Derek, the lady who runs the girls' hostel and the Life and Hope driver...
