The hospital gardens where Van Gogh lived for awhile, and painted. Van Gogh suffered from manic depression (not named during his life-time), and after an argument with this friend Paul Gauguin, cut off his earlobe and presented it to his friend Rachel. He was cared for in this hospital for blood loss, hallucinations, and severe depression.
