“Piper, have you seen Emily?”
“Uh, no Sam, I'm too busy trying to perfect my French look!” Piper scoffed and continued to admire herself in the mirror.
“Oh, please, you're no Sabine or Sophie,” Cate scoffed back as she approached.
“Uh!” said Piper. “I'm an heiress, I'm better than both of them!” Cate looked slightly taken aback.
“Cate! You're feeling better! Why are you so dressed up? And have you seen Emily?” Sam asked. “I have a skating banquet tonight with my coach and some of the other advanced students. And yeah, I just borrowed this skirt from her.”
Sam took Cate aside. “Did you think of anything that letter from Lindsay could mean?”
“No - you know more about Wicked than I do! But I called Lindsay, and she said the only clue she could give me was 'Everyone deserves a chance to fly.'” Cate sighed. “What does that mean, that we have to figure it out ourselves?”
“Probably,” said Sam. “What a 'clue'. That's just part of the next line in the song. We've figured out it's from Wicked already.”
“Yeah. Sorry, I have to go - let's talk about this later.” Cate pointed. “Look, THERE'S Emily!”
“Hi Emily!” greeted Sam. “I've been looking for you.” Emily was exuberant. “I decided to try on one of your Edwardian dresses, Sam! I hope that's okay.”
Sam stepped around so she could guide Emily away from Piper, who might get worried Emily wanted to hog the mirror. “Yes, you look great!”
“Thank you,” said Emily.
“I think my mum would have worn a dress like this to school!” This made Samantha feel old for some reason... even though she wasn't actually from 1904...
