the famous ziggurat, near Shush in the province Khuzestan. A wall is surrounding the complex. This place was called Elam. This ziggurat was built by king Untaš-Napiriša (1275-1240). It measures 105x105 meters and was probably 52 meters high. (more information can be found on: http://www.livius.org/a/iran/chogha_zanbil/cz.html)
One of the entrances. It is still forbidden to enter the higher levels, like it was thousands of years ago. Only the priest could go there.
On the highest level was a temple, which was used to bring sacrifies.
The Tower of Babel, from the Bible, probably was a ziggurat too.
Henk on the first level in the doorway.
The building is quite impressive because it is measures and the condition, because it's very old.
We where cooked in the sun, while it was in the morning. There are no trees there and the landscape is flat, sandy and quiet. There where not so many people. Firouz is filming and there was one man security.
By paying the Arab security man a little we could enter the first level and see the cuneiform inscription from near. his is one of the entrances to the complex. It was built from tiles, but the outer walls were made of bricks.
Naser, Firouz and Henk in the doorway.
Some parts in which the door could open and close.
Near the well, on which there were different inscriptions too.
