Morris's store, just before you get to state rd 992, where our homeplace is. This store holds a lot of memories for us as we were growing up. Seems that about 99% of all the groceries we bought were bought from here, on credit no doubt.
This is the stable and the new shelter Daddy had built
Here you can see the house and the stable to the right
As stated on the web, much of this house was not lived in or restored. To the right of the triangle sheltered porch from the 2nd story in this picture, this was the area of this home that was remodeled and lived in. All the Children left home by 1978 and the remodeling sort of stopped, because only half of the home was actually lived in and used. The rest of the house was used for storage. As you will see in the next pictures, the house is now empty except for a couple of pieces of furniture. The picture window room to the far right was added after 1978 as was a basement room because our father wanted a heating unit attached to the furnace that he could burn wood to heat the home.
This is the entrance to the home under the two story triangled section of the home. Again, this was never restored but with a little sanding and varnish could be a showplace.
This is the staircase that we fell in love with as children. There is storage space underneath the stairs. The door in the back leads to a backporch, that wraps around to the kitchen.
The staircase wraps around at the top and is not seen in either picture. This is the top of the staircase. The door in the front leads outside to the 2nd story porch. The room to the right is a very large bedroom, again unfinished. There is a door to the left as you come to the top of the stairs, that leads to another bedroom.
This is the bedroom to the left at the top of the stairs. You can see the railings here. There is a second set of stairs, from this room that leads to the room that our family used as the master bedroom on the first floor. This closet was built in 1975-76 and took the place of the railing that was here for this set of stairs. Paneling was added to remodel this room and floors were painted. Windows go from ceiling to floor.
2005 this room was painted (paneled room), as well as woodwork. This is the second set of stairs, from the previous room, that led to this bedroom. This is a very large room. Our Mom had a 4 piece bedroom suite, a sofa, a rocker, a tv stand, and a sewing machine in this room. Wish we had pictures when it was all decorated. House has been empty since our Dad died in the late fall of 2006.
This is the other side of the bedroom. This door to the left leads to the hall and staircase. Bathroom for the house, is here. Floor was raised in the late 90's. Use to have to step down into the bathroom. Bathroom was totally redone at that point. Window in bath is to the backporch.
This front door is the door to the main entrance that our family used. The bay window on the left, is the room addition that was added for my fathers wood stove project in a basement room. This basement room is an unfinished room for the furnace, the hot water heater and the wood burning stove. There is room for a woodpile and gardening tools. This door on the left is the stairs to the basement room.
This is the backside of the new room. The bookcase in the middle separated the new addition living space and a formal dining room. There was suppose to be a deck built outside this sliding door, but was never built. The door on the left circles around into the kitchen.
this is the main living room. All these walls (paneled) were painted in 2005 and new carpeting put in thruout the main living area (living, bedroom, and dining). This stereo did not sit here, but ended up here in this picture. Handrail was added here for our parents to get into the kitchen. There is one step into the kitchen. Door way on the far left, is going into the master bedroom, or what we used as the master bedroom with the bath.
This is not a very good picture of the kitchen. Stove set to the right of these cabinets. More cabinets on the opposite wall, with place for refrigerator.
This is the opposite side of the kitchen. Flooring needs to be replaced. Mama had her washer/dryer at the end of this room. You can see the hookup here. Built in pantry here to the right. One of the doors was not on for this particular picture, but both doors are there. This door leads to the backporch. There is an outside entrance off the backporch. If these walls could talk....You can't imagine how many meals were served and eaten at this table. So many family functions.
This is the old stable, which you pass on the way to the home. Been used for storing farm equipment and such for many years because our father no longer could tend to animals. It is in need of some repair, if someone wanted to use this as it was intended. There is a circle driveway to the home. You can see part of the circle here. Stable to left and house straight ahead.
Corn crib to the right. Stable addition was added in the last 15 years for Daddy to store the hay he kept. There is a cattle loading shoot area to the right in front of the corn crib
About two city blocks from the homehouse, is the creek. This picture was taken when all the leaves were falling and takes away from the beauty. These rocks look like they were handcarved, but the water over the years carved out a pathway for the water to flow. These pictures taken in Nov 2008
