ISKCON London's 40th Anniversary Celebrations 2009

ALL GLORIES TO SRILA PRABHUPADA! Kripa Moya Prabhu invited me to go see the new school when I met him at the Manor on the morning of the 19th November. I'm not around much so it's not surprising that I didn't receive a personal invite to the get-together meal nor to the Troxy on the 21st. I don't often get the association of my god brothers so it is always a delight to see them. The event at the Troxy Hall on Saturday was a huge success and I hope these photo's bring a little warmth to the hearts of those who view them. HARE KRISHNA!

From Leicester to Bhaktivedanta Manor and on to London for the famous Ratha-yatra Cart Festival. It was an amazingly blissfull day where old friends come together like bees flit from flower to flower to taste the nectar.

Florida May, 2009

Was looking forward to seeing old friends. Coral wanted some sun and I didn't really want to go anywhere so I accompanied her to Florida. Great weather and as I said, met some old friends like Jnanagamya, Ranjit, Pancaratna, Kaliyaphani, Adikarta, Mukhya Devi, Puskara, Kirtiraja, Syama-kunda, Kesava and others. For me there are no greater friends than devotees and I hope to always keep that association. Florida is most definitely The Sunshine State!

Newcastle Harinama Sankirtana

Went up to Newcastle on Saturday for street chanting and it was very enlivening. Once again I enjoyed the association of Janananda Goswami and I took these pictures. If you go to You Tube and type in "Hare Krishna Pied Piper" you will see what happened after the street chanting on our way back to the temple on Westgate Hill. Hare Krishna! Preaching is our life and soul!!!

Leeds Harinama Sankirtana

I have always wanted to chant in Leeds indoor market and on this day we did just that. This street chanting is very special and especially because Lord Chaitanya and Lord Nityananda personally chant along with us. You may not see them but they are there, and this activity of chanting the holy names out loud for all to hear is very purifying for the soul. This activity is so purifying that one can in fact experience the highest form of ecstacy and be situated in all expanding spiritual bliss. In the market the butchers were so happy to see us that they even danced with Janananda Goswami, it was a wonderful and completely blissful experience. Actually, Maharaja was an inspiration of jollity and gay abandon.

Deities Worldwide

I started taking snapshots in 1981 when Krishna Chandra and I travelled around the world in 80 days (true story). Actually, I had an epiphany in 1974 when I vowed never to take photo's again and never to keep images of the past. As devotees we see Krishna in the past, present and future so photo's are good! Hare Krishna!

Portugal 2008

We flew this time. The Algarve has many nice villages and towns. I don't care for the beaches as I'm not a sunbather but there are plenty of other attractions in the form of churches and old buildings. In one town there are 22 churches and three convents. Interestingly enough there are no nuns in situ anymore. Such a shame but just another sign of rampant irreligion.

Trip South 2008 Part 2

Carrying on from Part 1 this journey was around Andalucia (Southern Spain) and finally a two day trip up through Spain, France and finally over the channel with Norfolk Line to Dover and then up to Leeds. The weather in the UK was just has I had left it two months earlier. British weather is hellish!

Trip South 2008 Part 1

I just had to get away from the crap British weather and the monotony of boredom. I just love to travel and in that way I don't gather moss and I'm in my element. This album called Part 1 is the start of my journey over the English channel (take note it's not called the French channel) and down through France, over Andora and on to Barcelona. Down the Spanish coast to Gibraltar and then on to Algeciras to take the ferry to Ceuta which is a Spanish enclave on the African Continent. From Ceuta through Morroco to Agadir which is just above the Sahara and then back again through the Rif Mountains ( to the port of Ceuta, over the straights of Gibraltar back to Algeciras. Album Part 2 is about meeting up with Coral and her friend and visiting some of the famous Cities in Andalucia such as Sevilla, Jaen, Cordoba etc. In total 1,479 photo's in this two part album.

My Books

Over the years I have aquired various Krsna conscious books that always accompany me wherever I live. When I first became a devotee in 1975 I would read prolifically, even voraciously. I was hungry for knowledge at that time. Now, I hardly read at all but I do intend (always intend) to once again enter into that same rhythm of reading and chanting. I have some of our original books from the Boston Press and one of them is signed personally by Srila Prabhupada.

Alachua 2007

I travelled to Alachua in September of 2007 primarily to see my good friend Kaliyaphani Prabhu who was supposed to be getting married (all good things come to an end). Anyway, I enjoyed two weeks of blissful engagement sorting out some of the backlog of maintenance work that had accumulated for various reasons. By the way, you'll see Kaliyaphani as a wizard with a spanner but he's really a tree surgeon. I really enjoyed it there and I still wonder as to why I doggedly maintain my independence by living outside of a Krsna conscious community. I must be MAD!

South Africa 2006

I have known Coral since 2001 and we have become very good friends. I introduced her to Krishna consciousness at that time and she was immediately attracted. The material world has many nooks and crannies for us to explore and on the journey of exploration we have to make many decisions. Some decisions are of the heart and some of the head but these issues can be so complex that bewilderment is the only result, and that is something we all have to own up to. South Africa has great weather and a varied landscape. It has more to offer than what one might think. As for violence? I never had a problem in 10 years. One always has to be mindful of ones surroundings, especially in central Johannesburg, but outside of that it's safer in many respects than the UK . The driving standards are generally not as good as in Europe but much better than the rest of Africa. I plan to go back to SA and preach but whether in this life or the next? that still remains to be seen.

My Garden Route, Mpumalanga and Kruger Park Trip 2006

In the Cape area the weather can be unpredictable. Sometimes the rain is incessant and even some bridges collapse and on this trip I just got over the bridge before it did collapse. Had to negotiated the horrible potholes before I got to Knysna. I had the rain in Knysna and snow and slush going over the high Karoo on my way to Mpumalanga and the Kruger Park.

Dhirashanta's Cornwall Place 2006

I visited Dhirashanta Prabhu in 2006 (we go back a few years). I found his place most relaxing and ideal for a getaway from the humdrum of semi-material life. Dhirashanta visits schools and engages the students in Krishna consciousness which is a wonderful thing.

Egypt 2006

Interesting trip this. I don't like deserts, nor swimming pool culture, I'm not interested in beaches or sunbathing and I'm not into arab culture of low seats and Hookah pipes! The camel was not exciting and the quads were too restrained (tourists aaagh). However, I did walk all the way up Mount Sinai to see the sunrise and all the way down to St Catherine's monastry where the Burning Bush is situated, at least they say so. I had problems with my lower legs on this trip after all the jolting they got on the way down. I did like the snorkling because the varieties of fish keeps one interested. Apart from this I was BORED!

Prabhupada At The Manor 1977

By chance I came across these photo's a few years ago. I am in two of them which is no credit to me whatsoever. I was very fortunate to get close to Prabhupada one day in the temple room. Now, all these years later I can understand that it is a matter of the heart. Don't be fooled by the external veil that we form from our conditioning. Purify the heart and you will understand Prabhupada's love for us. Hare Krishna!

South Africa ISKCON 2006

There is no association outside of devotee association. What do I mean? Material life is temporary and has no real meaning because we cannot live in one body forever. To associate on this level can only end in pain and suffering. That is the reality. However, association on the spiritual platform is transcendental to all pain and suffering. Material minded persons will never understand this, nor will they ever understand how a devotee lives separate from the material world. Even my own family don't understand me so what does that say for those on the outside. So, if one wants to live for ever and be free of anxiety, one should just chant Hare Krishna and be happy! Don't speculate about things you don't understand, don't stay outside in that dark fearful world, rather come inside our house and realise a beautiful new world.

Greece 2005

Simi or Symi is rather a nice island but it does get very hot. It's great for walking and taking boat rides to different coves etc. We crossed over to Rhodes for a day and found it to be interesting but ruined by tourism. The restaurant waiters are very aggressive in the way they tout for business (much calmer in Portugal). It's not that I didn't like Simi but I don't have an urge to go back. One thing though, I had plenty of time for chanting, reading and watching Krishna conscious videos, and that I appreciated.

UK 2005

Back in the UK for a while so took the opportunity to travel around. Personally I find a difficulty in what I want to do, what I think I should do and what I actually do. One of those conundrums that life throws at us if we decide to be independent. My solution has been to try to follow something I've understood by personal experience "know thyself, be thyself", it's as simple as that. When the mind games start it can be a tangled web we weave.

Kruger National Park 1992-2007

I have to admit that the Kruger Park is one of my all time favourites. There is something about the experience that resonates with me. The bush sounds, the naked wild life, the camraderie, the awful food, the peace and quiet, the excitement of being among wild animals, often highly dangerous, in their natural habitat. I've distributed books there, prasadam there, and chanted there so it's not all maya.

I'm not a camera buff and I don't have any ambition to become one. I take these photo's for the pleasure of the devotees and my few friends. This gives me a certain sense of satisfaction knowing that in the years to come anyone can experience the pleasure of this spiritual festival just by viewing these pictures. Don't pander to what your image guru (false-ego) instructs so that you become what you think others want to see. Prabhupada (some new material)

All Glories to SRILA PRABHUPADA! Some of these photo's I believe are not with the BBT archives. Kunjamandana received a collection of photo's from Prabhupada's servant at Bury Place. She kept them for years and I only came across them in 2000. You will find them interspersed throughout this album. There are some others that I believe are not recorded elsewhere. Anyway, I hope that when you travel through this album you will feel some spiritual benefit from the association of this great and kindly person, and at the same time spare me a kind thought so that I may progress on the path of devotional service. My India Trips 1981-2004

I first went to India in 1981 and maybe 10 times since then. Some of the photo's are of poor quality because the slide film deteriorated. Some are prints scanned to 300dpi and others are direct digital as in later years. I love the spiritual aspect of India but I don't like the filth and disease that abounds. none the less a great time was had by all. Hare Krishna!
