Caro insited on grabbing my camera.
Rowing in Florence, how nice.
The famous Ponte Vecchio. There are shops along the street.
We stumbled upon a procession in Palazzo Vecchio! Too bad I cut off his face.
Yep, just tights on the bottom.
The Duomo. Never have I seen a church embellished with marble on the exterior.
The Medicis really had some money to burn.
We went to an Italian service in the Duomo. Dang lense flare.
Inside the Baptistry building. There were three levels of biblical stories on the ceiling. Italy was my first time seeing separate buildings just for baptizing.
Santa Croce, supposedly the place with tombs of Galileo, Dante, Machiavelli, and Michelangelo but we didn't know nor did we feel like waiting in line--espeically with the weather!
Top part of Santa Croce.
A puppet show in the plaza in front of Santa Croce
They're sitting on the boxes they use to sell their work because a police car just pulled up. There was a loud warning whistle from someone and then they were all sitting on their boxes, minding their own business.
Bridge over the Arco river
Otherside of the Ponte Vecchio
In the Boboli Gardens behind this huge palace. Duomo on the left, sticking out. We were able to convince the ticket person that we were both EU citizens with non-EU ids for half price.
I think he needs some lotion.
Still in the gardens. We climbed up a bit, so you can see the mountains and the sprawling city.
It's the natural form of the Button outside Penn's main library!
From the gardens we decided we would stroll through the backroads of Tuscany in hopes of landing at this great viewpoint for the sunset.
Thank goodness our map was good because we were kind of lost for a bit.
We made it! Almost sunset.
Sculpture by Michelangelo at the viewpoint in Piazzale Michelangelo
4 of the 6 bridges over the river. Ponte Vecchio is the first.
Caro stole my camera again. That's the Duomo above my shoulder.
Sunset, hence poor lighting.
Since we were distracted by some high school aged Florencian boys that wouldn't leave us alone, this is the ONLY picture I got of the gorgeous sky we saw lightup as we descended the hill back to the city. Grr. I wanted more but I'm too polite.
