1962 blue Triumph English 3 speed
this is the 1964? Hercules I gave to Elizabeth. She's done a great job with the clean up. fenders, seat, chainguard, and more need to go back on.
1960 Hawthorne Hercules Produced in the year Raleigh took over Hercules, the rare cantilever frame on this English three speed was meant to appeal to the American market. It was badged "Hawthorne" and sold at Montgomery Wards. The chain guard is not the original.
1954 Phillips desperately needs a clean up
1972 Imperial 3 speed bicycle
Imperial, after one round of paint and chrome polishing. Seat is a Schwinn seat. Original owner's Wrights leather seat was damaged.
Rollfast, skip tooth

Columbia 1960s women's bike, has been repainted
Rollfast Champion
Chainguard reads "Schwinn Panther" underneath a layer of paint. Not sure if this is one.
This is a 1968 Raleigh Sports 10 speed I just picked up and cleaned up. It is in excellent condition overall, with a bit of scratching on the top tube. This is an unusual color for the era; most Raleighs were much more subdued. It is definitely a higher end Sports model, especially with ten speeds, frame pump, and the dynohub on the front wheel to power the front and rear lights. Not sure why it has a cheesy vinyl saddle instead of a Brooks leather, unless the owner switched it out. An early 10 speed, it uses half step gearing and has downtube gear selectors The fenders aren't original I don't think, and I'm unsure about whether the handlebars are, but I've added the white tape.

1968 Raleigh Sports. Isn't this a fantastic design?
1968 Raleigh Sports. This is me trying it out!
Dunelt Raleigh built 3 speed I don't recall the year -- 1960s or 1970s. I found it for Tom of Oswald Cycle Works, and he replaced the two-toned blue saddle with a Brooks and added a motor kit. It looks fantastic.
This is a frankenbike, a vintage bicycle of mixed parts. The frame (serial K31451) is a Schwinn from 1953 with the springer fork, possibly a Black Phantom. The chain guard and chain wheel may also be original. I think pretty much everything else is cobbled together or replaced. It works well though and is still a lot of fun. I'm giving it to Elizabeth to customize as she wishes.
Several layers of bad spray paint jobs. I've used acetone to remove a little paint and see what's underneath.
Cheesy new basket, rusty spring, and bad spray paint.
I can't wait to see what Elizabeth does with it!
here's the new paint job, thanks to Steve's Firehouse Powder Coating
This Derby Sonic Scout was made by Evans Colson in the mid 1950s. I bought this bicycle from a guy who said it had been in his father's barn. The horn is intact and still works on occasion, but there is battery damage to the battery mount and to the paint on the frame under it. The front light is missing its lens and likely corroded too. Most other damage (dings, rust, chipped paint) is visible in the pictures, but mechanically it still seems to be in working order, although the front trusses are backwards. The tank says Sonic Scout, the badge says Derby, and it has a Bendix hub (Elmira NY 36-13). The serial number has been corroded and is difficult to read. ???785??? The first character is boxy (could be an E or F?).
This Derby Sonic Scout tank is not as awesomely painted as those in pictures of Evans Colson Sonic Scouts I've seen.
The Derby head badge.
Derby Sonic Scout Troxel seat and rear carrier rack.
The hub is quite shiny underneath the grime.
Indecipherable serial number.
The bike that started it all. 1960-61 JC Higgins Women's Flightliner from Sears I picked this up at a yard sale and have had a great time cleaning it up and riding it to campus. The bicycle came with the original owner's packet, and what you see is all original, except for two stickers (Safety Club and 1976 city license) and the tires, which I've switched out to ride around town without destroying the old rubber. The bicycle was in really excellent shape, with one exception. The original owner had left batteries in the tank, so there is a great deal of corrosion to the battery mount, the inside of the tank, and the undersides of the frame where battery acid ran from the back of the tank down to the bottom tube and over near the chain guard. Still working on replacing internal parts.
JC Higgins Flightliner Atomic decal and headlight.
JC Higgins Flightliner Jet inspired rear carrier rack.
