This was what Ben and I walked into as we made our way to Grant Park. That's Michigan Ave on the other side of the statue. People with tickets were instructed to go to the right. And so we begin...
Keeping to the right, making our way to the first checkpoint.
Slow and steady wins the race. Almost to the first checkpoint...
Somewhere between checkpoint 2 and 3.
Somewhere else between checkpoint 2 and 3. There were 4 or 5 checkpoints all in all. A few were just showing ticket and ID, at one we had to show all our "portable electronics" and at the last one, we passed through metal detectors and were pat down. Daley deserves kudos. The organization behind this was fantastic.
Ready for the riot. The last time I saw cops on horse with full riot gear was when we marched through downtown Chicago protesting the Iraq War.
Our first view of Grant Park.
Standing shoulder to shoulder for hours, some people had been waiting since dawn.
Anticipation...
...celebration.
Obama is president.
Cheering for Obama to take the stage.
All eyes on Obama.
Our President-elect addresses the world.
Leaving the park
Leaving the park...
One last glance.
Approaching Michigan Avenue while leaving the park.
Michigan Ave
...victorious.
