On Saturday December 6th, 2008 at 12:30 pm, Saint Patrick's Church Restoration Society honoured the memory of 32 women from Saint Joseph's Parish who were killed during the
Halifax Explosion on December 6, 1917. Mayor Peter Kelly and the Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Mayann E. Francis, were in attendance. In 1920, the names of these women were engraved on one of the world renowned Meneely Bells and this bell was called the Ave Maria bell. The bell was given to the Sister's of Charity for their new convent which replaced the original convent that was destroyed during the explosion. The Sisters of Charity have entrusted this bell to the Saint Patrick's Church Restoration Society and it will be included in the Society's planned Halifax Explosion Museum.
