Urban League Preschoolers at Bell Garden

Students from Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis' Head Start program came for a fun-filled educational visit to Bell Demonstration Garden. It was a crisp and beautiful day at the garden, and the children participated in activites that engaged all of their senses, and introduced them to the chickens in our Community Coop. 2012 Harvest Fair

Come celebrate the harvest season with fellow community gardeners and volunteers! Festive activities will abound, including: Live music by members of the Green Strum Project Band from 10am-12pm Raffle with items courtesy of Gringo Jones, The Bug Store and A Little Shop Around the Corner Sweet potato harvesting and stamp-making Herb vinegar-making with the St. Louis Herb Society Food presentation by River City Casino chefs Hot coffee and cider Free and open to the general public.

2012 City Seeds Urban Farm Field Day

2012 Great Perennial Divide

For nearly 15 years, backyard gardeners from throughout the St. Louis region have turned their trowels into weapons against urban decline by donating thousands of plants dug from their own yards during the Great Perennial Divide (GPD). Plants donated by these gardeners are made available FREE to more than 200 Gateway Greening Community Gardens and citizen-managed green spaces in the inner city core. These beautiful gardens are located on formerly abandoned land in the heart of neighborhoods, boulevards, schoolyards and street entrances.

2012 Urban Roots

Gateway Greening, in association with the St. Louis Master Gardeners, participates in Urban Roots, a downtown St. Louis landscape enhancement initiative. Urban Root’s Mission is to engage and provide resources to volunteers from the gardening, educational, business, horticulture green industry and non-profit service communities to enhance the St. Louis urban landscape, ultimately realizing an improved quality of life for those who reside, work and enjoy life in downtown St. Louis.

2012 Bell Garden & Carriage House

Bell Demonstration Garden is a thriving community resource for urban gardening activities in St. Louis. Gateway Greening purchased Bell Demonstration and Community Garden in 2001 with the goal of providing educational workshops and gardening materials to community gardeners to help them grow more food and invest in their neighborhoods. Comprised of 22 vacant lots, Bell Garden is a living example of productive use of vacant land. By dedicating this large amount of land to food production, the garden demonstrates one solution to providing food security to everyone. Come by and visit our "outdoor office!" Bell Demonstration and Community Garden is open to the public on Saturdays from March – November. Hours: Saturdays, 9am – 12pm* Location: 3871 Bell Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63108 * Bell Demonstration and Community Garden is closed for major holidays such as, Memorial Day, the 4th of July, and Labor Day.
