Casablanca

The most popular tourist attraction in Morocco are the Mosques. The Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca is the third largest in the world, and largest outside of Saudi Arabia. We went to Rick's and had drinks, there was no casino in the parlor though. (I uploaded these from a dial up in Africa, I saved them small and then stripped them for the web by the uploader. They're ok but not the best possible upload) BEST WATCHED AS A SLIDE SHOW!

kids running after candy

On the road to Fort James Island in each village we passed the children yelled and screamed and ran after the truck as the British passengers threw candy to them. It seems to be the usual occurrence when white people or "two-bobs" drive by. We weren't expecting this to happen and the whole experience was awkward and extremely polarizing from a racial perspective. Entire villages of children were running after us as we sped by like an out of control Mardi Gras float.

The once British controlled Fort James is one of the last holding places of Africans before being shipped into slavery in the Americas. They stayed here for a fortnight before moving to the Point of No Return and joining the ships that would sail them away from Africa forever. Kunta Kinte is said to have moved through this dungeon holding cell where the trouble makers and the strongest were sent. Millions of slaves could have passed through this island in the hundreds of years of the slave trade. -Fort James Island at Albreda/Juffureh, The Gambia, Jan 4th 2007

Baboons of Makasutu

The Baboons of Makasutu. The troop has been passing through there for years and have now started to settle and disrupt some of the facilities. They are constantly shooed away from many areas. They appear to be harmless because we walked among them every time we went out for a walk.
