Ankara from a window
see above
from the same window- a little different view
Tokat- it was very cold and rainy when we went out, forgive me in this album because I forget the names of evreything, hence they're unlabeled or they admit that I just don't know!
The green river- green is yeşil, river I don't know!
more tokat- that hill is tokat "castle" Turks call even the place where a castle used to be a castle, so don't expect a building unless it's visible!
that hill right below the wire is tokat castle
the little patch of red is the flag flying from the castle
the pointy roof thing is historical- from the seljuk turks, but I don't know the name or even purpose!, obviously my knowledge of tokat is minimal
said unknown building
This I know!- the tokat museum, which I didn't visit
a woman walking along the equivalent of main street
"main street"
more tokat castel
do i really need to say it again?
Taşhan, another old building that has always been a shopping center
it has the same words!
Taşhan
really?
Bir camii- a mosque, probably also historical
mosque, rain
the Hamam- Turkish bath, which I didn't visit! (don't knwo if that's good or bad)
A bus in tokat
green river
green river and ersin's head
green river, way out of order!
man in front of hamam, out of order again
the valley where Niksar and "ice village"- where Nuray and Cemil are from originally are situated
Left to right: Ersin, Berke (host cousin), Ercan (host uncle), Sevda (host aunt by marriage)
some of Niksar- also very historical!
Mooo! cows, sheep, goats all crossed our path more frequently as we got closer to the village
Nuray/ Cemil's birthday party-- they were born a year and a day apart, everyone was kissing and taking pictures! Which is a good summary of pretty much every event in Turkey
Two new faces- in the front row, Egeman (host cousin), gulay (host aunt and Nuray's sister- if you see the resemblance)
Me, Ersin, my future hump-back and growing gut (well hidden in black)
Ballica Cave- formed by an underwater river, these are all out of order!
Nuray and Cemil in the cave, you could actually see into to black space, but flash doesn't really fill a whole cave!
The caves have enough moisture for algae to grow- but only near the lamps, because that's where all the light is
Çankırı Salt Caves- all that was really in Çankırı besides a few houses
A dead donkey that broke it's foot while hauling salt and was preserved in the cave, now it serves as morbid reminder of the effects salt mining has had on the donkey population!
A rabbit similairly preserved- for what reason, i don't know, maybe the miners ran out of donkeys and tried to use rabbits to carry away the salt
Statues made by marmara university students
the poster advertising that
The cart that, in addition to the donkey, was used to carry salt
