Frejus Librarians Visit Fredericksburg, Virginia
Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Frejus, France, have been sister cities, promoting cultural exchange, since 1980. In March 2009, the Central Rappahannock Regional Library and the Fredericksburg Sister City Association, in the two cities' first exchange between libraries, welcomed the Frejus municipal library's Catherine Lecat, director, and Christine Ortuno, manager of the adult reading room and rare books collection, for a week of Libraries, American Style.
The visitors will experience behind-the-scenes introductions to staff and procedures at the CRRL, tour Fredericksburg academic libraries, and enjoy road trips to DC and Charlottesville for specially arranged tours of the special collections at the Library of Congress, the National Gallery of Art, and University of Virginia libraries.
They will head for home next Saturday with, we hope, good memories and perhaps some new ideas for providing library service to their community in the south of France.
