Kings How via the Bowder Stone.

A very simple circular walk from the NT Bowder Stone car park. A lovely walk after recent bad weather. I was surprised to see deer in the woods next to the main road.

A St George's Day walk to Great Gable.

I parked the car at the Honister Slate Mine. From there I ascended Green Gable, then onto Great Gable. I returned to the car via Windy Gap and Moses Trod. There were sunny spells, but with a cool breeze.

Caw Fell - there and back

A very simple walk this. Parked the car on the Cold Fell Rd. From there we followed an old miners track. There was a short muddy section, then we followed the wall all the way to the summit of Caw Fell. Back by the same route.

Dodd to Ullock Pike

I parked the car at the Old Sawmill Tearooms. From there I made an ascent of Dodd. I then moved on to Carl Side, Long Side and Ullock Pike. The weather was wonderful, to believe its March.

High Pike and Carrock Fell

A long with a friend, David Leslie, we went up High Pike via West Fell. This was an easy and pleasant way to High Pike. From there we went to Carrock Fell and then back to the car.

A windy and cold Bowscale Fell

This a short walk in theory, Bowscale Fell and Bannderdale Crags. However the snow was much deeper than I anticipated which made for slow going. It was windy and very cold, so very few photos.

Middle Fell via Greendale

David Lesley and myself made an ascent of Middle Fell. We went up Greendale Valley to the tarn. The snow was deeper than we expected so we made our way to Middle Fell and then back to the car. We had one snow shower and it was rather cold.

Around the Aitken Valley

I did this walk with David Lesley. We parked close to Darling How Farm. We followed the forest road until an obvious junction left to Lords Seat, right to Whinlatter. From Whinlatter we retraced our route and then went on to Lords Seat, Broom Fell and Graystones. The weather was rather gloomy at times, but the sun did shine every now and then.

Steeple to Caw Fell

My original intention was to have a wander round Ennerdale, but given the decent weather I went up the fells instead. I ascended Steeple from Low Gill. From there I went on the Scoat Fell, Haycock and Caw Fell. All in all, a fine walk.

Hopegill Head via the Notch

I ascended Ladyside Pike from Hobcaton Valley ( which was very steep). From there I made my to Hopegill Head via the Notch. There were some easy slabs to cross. I then went on to Grisdale Pike and Whinlatter via the NE ridge. I called in at Siskins Cafe at the visitor centre for a cup of tea.

Glen Brittle, rainbows, waterfalls and an eagle

Another wet day on Skye. Edmund and I went to the Glen Brittle forest, but the path we wanted to use was closed. We tried to walk to the Faery pools, but the stream was in spate. Still the waterfalls were impressive and we saw an eagle.

From the Glen Brittle camp site I walked up to Coire Lagan, a truly splendid place. After inspecting the Great Stone Chute and the An Stac screes I returned to the car via the Eas Mor waterfall.

A friend and I took advantage of the good weather. I parked the car at Whinlatter summit. We went up to Whinlatter and the then on to Lords Seat. All looked lovely in later afternoon/ early evening sunshine.

I began this walk at Seathwaite. I went up Grains Gill to Esk Hause and on to Allen Crags. From there I went on to Glaramara and Bessyboot. The ridge from Glaramara to Bessyboot was a bit confusing at times.

I climbed Fellbarrow from Mosser and Hatteringill. From there I went on to Low Fell and Darling Fell. I returned to the car via the Mosser road. A pleasant afternoon walk.

Catstycam via the NW ridge

I parked at Glenridding ( £7!) I walked up road the site of the Greenside Mines. From there I made my way to the NW ridge of Catstycam. The ridge itself was steep but easy. From there I crossed Swirral Edge - had a touch of cramp near the top. I went to the summit of Helvellyn were it was cold and windy. I then traversed Whiteside and Raise and then back to the car.

On a lovely spring day I ascended Blencathra from the village of Mungrisedale. From there I went on to Mungrisedale Common, then Bannderdale Crags and finally Bowscale Fell.

Barf& Lords Seat from Whinlatter Pass.

I parked the car at the Whinlatter Visitor centre (£6.95 ouch). From there I made my way along various forest roads and trails to the summit of Barf. From there I went to Lord's Seat. Shortly after leaving Lords Seat I took a wrong turn and ended up having a slightly longer walk.

Whin Rigg and IllgillHead from Eskdale

This is a fine walk. I parked the car at Eskdale Green. From there I went up Whin Rigg. Then I followed the ridge to Illgill Head were excellent views of Wastwater can be had. From Illgill head I returned to car via Mitredale.

I parked the car on the minor just up from Wythop Mill. I went to the Old Corpse Road and then went straight up Ling Fell. From the summit I head back to the Corpse Rd, I paid a brief visit to Wythop Mill and then back to the car.

I parked the car close to Rigg Beck. There followed a road walk in order to gain the ridge to Knott Rigg. The ridge to the summit was steep intially. It was windy on the ridge. The way down was very muddy in places.

Lords Seat via Aiken Beck

I parked the car on the western side of Whinlatter Pass. I made my way up to Lord's Seat via the forest roads. I took a wrong turning at one point, which meant fighting my way through the conifers. The cloud was quite low, so there were no views on the summit. From Lords Seat I followed the ridge to Broom Fell and Graystones and then back to the car.

A saunter up Sale Fell

I parked the car just outside Braithwaite. I went up Barrow and then onto Outerside, I returned to Braithwaite via Stoneygill. There was plenty of snow. It was a cloudy day so not great for photos.

Middle Fell to Buckbarrow

I parked the car at Greendale. I went up Middle Fell. On the top there was short, sharp hail shower. From there I went to Seatallan, the last 200m was rather steep. From there I went on the Buckbarrow and then back to the car.

Blake Fell from Lamplugh

I parked the car at Felldyke close to Lamplugh. I passed Cogra Moss reservoir and soon gained the ridge that took me not to Blake Fell but Gavel Fell. It was cloudy and very windy. I then walked the ridge to Blake Fell and then Burnbank Fell. I returned to the car via the forest road above Cogra Moss reservoir.

I parked the car near to Quernmore. Steve and I walked from Clough Pike to Ward Stones. It was mainly heather and bog, but thankfully not too wet. On the way back, it began to rain.

Beacon Fell - a short stroll

After a while of being unable to get out and walk, I went on a short stroll around Beacon Fell. It was a lovely cold day with good clear views. At the end of the walk I was delighted to see the visitor centre cafe was open. I had soup and a bacon sandwich. The last few photos were taken on a short car drive I had after the walk.

Parlick Pike& Fairsnsnape Fell

I parked the car at the foot of Parlick Pike. The route up to the summit and onwards to Fairsnape Fell was pleasant. The rest of the walk was peat hags, mud and bog. Thankfully most of it was frozen.

Dove Crag via High Sweden Bridge

I began the walk in Ambleside. The route was High Sweden Bridge, Low Pike, High Pike and Dove Crag. On Dove Crag I abandoned my original walk - the Fairfield Horsehoe -and returned via Little Hart Crag and Scandale Valley. The weather was hot and sunny.

Melbreak - Edmunds 214th

My brother Edmund was on his last Wainwright - Melbreak. It was cold and cloudy for the most of the walk. There were 12 in the party and we all had a good time, especially when we reached the summit!. On the way back we had a look at Scale Force and then returned along the shore of Crummock Water.

Tarn and Grey Crag

We parked the car at Sadgill. We then went up Gatesgarth Pass to its summit. From there we went up Branstree. On the summit of Branstree the weather changed and it rained for the rest of the walk. After Branstree we went on to Tarn Crag and Grey Crag. We saw nothing as the mist was down. It was wet and very boggy under foot. We got slightly lost coming down from Grey Crag!

Catbells and Thirlmere

The plan was to ascend Catbells and then go on to Maiden Moor. This came unstuck as I had a bit of a panicy moment near the summit of Catbells. We retreated back to Keswick. On the way home we called at Castlerigg stone citcle then had a look at Thirlmere.

A snowy Wansfell

I parked the car in Ambleside. This proved to be the mosr dangerous part of the day as I skidded the car lol. We went up Wansfell via Stock Gill. It was cold and windy. Half way up there was a heavy snow shower. As we got to the top the sun came out. As there was a very strong cold wind we decided to head back to Ambleside via Nanny Lane and Troutbeck. We were rewarded with some splendid spindrift. In Troutbeck we had a cup of tea at the Post Office - in proper cups to!. All in all a great winter walk.
