Snowstorm from Trapper Creek to Cantwell. Not an easy drive!
This is the end of the storm, in Cantwell. It was worse a couple of miles back.
When big trucks go by, you're in total white-out. You see them coming, figure the direction of the road, point your tires the right way, and hum to yourself to stay calm...
Just north of Cantwell, entering Denali Park... storm is over... and driving seems so relaxing now!
Arriving at Heike's cabin in Fairbanks. Glad to get there!
John Keech, my bass player on the CD and in this oncert, demonstrating how to be a Power Pop singer in his cabin.
John Keech with a guitar. I call him "Johnny Flame".
Testing the camera.
Singing Going To Shadu with Robin Dale Ford and Trudy Heffernan on harmonies...
We pulled off Emily Has Compassion Fatigue with Candy and George Rydlinski on oboe and basoon, as well as Helena Burmann on cello, John on bass, and Robin on harmony. All in one rehearsal!
You can see Alex Clarke lurking back there behind me. Great guitarist and very nice guy.
Me and John Keech - nice to have a bass player who dresses well, I tell ya! Alex Clarke is back there, too...
The ensemble for Venus Vibrance. You can see Trudy holding the prop-of-honor.
More fun with Venus Vibrance.
Close up of facial expression during Venus Vibrance.
Another close-up of my eyes while singing Venus Vibrance...
Those pesky microphones, always in the way!
Wheat Head friends Ms. Divvie and Denali on either side of me.
Denali doesn't seem to be posing with a kissy-face. Why not?
A bunch of us went out for a nightcap after the show. Had trouble finding the right bar... Ended up here. It was definitely the right bar, in a sort of surreal Fairbanks-appropriate way.
The country band in our special bar. They had quite a drum machine!
Pat Fitzgerald, who had a LOT to do with the results on my CD. Cute, huh?
Alex is concerned that Robin's head is cold, while Pat enjoys some country music.
Heike and I holding the camera out in front of us.
I'm into these self-portraits with the camera in your own hand.
Another self-snapshot, with Denali. I sure like her glasses. I need to get me some cool-ass glasses like that.
Me and Ms. Divvie self-snapshot.
Who's hand is that?
Denali's one-and-only, Brian.
Crying tears of joy at the beauty of this Fairbanks bar.
Susan and Robin. I wish I could lean my head in and hear what they're saying!
Snowstorm in Broad Pass on the way home from Fairbanks to Talkeetna.
Last 2 photos taken while driving. This one kind of catches the feeling of not being able to tell what's in front of you or where the edge of the road actually is...
My first night in Fairbanks, Heike (on rt) took me to a wonderful St. Nikolaus party at the home of her friends Sharon (on left) and Lars
Heike led us in the making of a German traditional mulled wine, which is sweetened by that sugar cone atop the pot. Heike is pouring hard liquor over the sugar. Then we'll light it and the sugar will melt into the pot as a syrup.
The beautiful burning sugar cone...
We all watch the sugar cone burn and melt into syrup. There are a lot of geology grad students here. Note typical signs of unfinished Alaskan home!
We all made paper snowflakes. I decorated mine with glitter glue. That's Lars who built, correction, has been building this amazing house for many years.
We picked numbers that matched great little gifts. I traded my rose-soap for butt-soap. Then the nice man I traded with got excited about his rose-soap.
I don't have a good pic of Helena playing cello in my concert, but here she is at the St. Nikolaus party with her little birdie. She is a wonderful, quick-learning cellist. It was great to have her in the concert.
