the school
kids still working, before they noticed my camera
the guy on the right is one of the central people in "Five Past Midnight"
oh my god this little guy was so absolutely adorable
they ALL wanted to be in EVERY photo, of course
there was a lot of pushing and shoving to be in the photos
and this little girl kept jumping into the photos and blocking all the other kids out
he had a really devilish but sweet smile
anisha was really into them
she's in a bollywood dance troop at stanford
hence the blurry-ness
i made them go outside so anisha could talk to ganga ram in some peace and quiet
i kept holding up my hands to try to get them to stay put, and they obviously though that it was a strange version of high-fiving, because they all held their little hands up to mine
then they realized that i could write my name in hind AND english, so i had to do it in all fifty notebooks. this photo got taken my accident in the crush of kids shoving their notebooks in my face.
she was cute

one of the older girls at the school
the girl on the right is the one who is going to be teaching us the dance... she also looks like she's about fifteen
anisha, pretending to teach the kids
god only knows why
my understanding being that the purpose of photos is to document a truth
his being that it is to show something fictitious or real, like a movie
these kids are learning three different languages and scripts
talk about intense...
the schoolhouse
and the little yard thing where they teach the class
the neighbourhood that the school is in
this is a traditional home like those made in the villages that most of the people in this area are from. most of the houses are like the other ones in my photos now, but ganga ram said that when he came here in the eighties, all the homes looked like this. this community is gas affected, and a lot of them used the compensation they got to build the other type of house, with cement.
