Carcassonne - all these people were dressed up in crazy clothes and celebrating something......

....I think to do with this donkey!!!

They were singing and dancing in the main square and parading with the donkey....

....and then they started parading through the streets as well!

Carcassonne - while I was waiting for the train, I went on a boat ride on the Canal du Midi

The canal stretches from the Mediterranean to Toulouse - it was built so that France could have a passage from the Mediterranean to th Atlantic without having to go through Spain!

It is beautiful and very peaceful

It was built in the 1600s.....amazing!

We drove through the gorges of the Ardeche....

....they are amazing!

We stopped at lots of scenic lookouts!

We went up to the Burgenstock mountain, where there are lots of old hotels......and lovely views......and lots of photos ov those views!

You can hike all through the mountains if you like....

Strasbourg, France - the Old Town is a UNESCO world heritage site

The Old Town is an island surrounded by a canal

Strasbourg is in France but right on the German border.....and as is obvious from the buildings, it's more German than French

Along the canal is beautiful

Street signs are in French and German

This is the old tradesman's quarter

There are heaps of these little 'bierstub' places

Strasbourg's cathedral is spectacular....

And there are heaps of old buildings!

Notre Dame, Paris

I went on this excellent walking tour of the Montmarte.....we saw the Moulin Rouge......

.....and travelled on the Metro.....

.....and saw the cafe from the movie Amelie....

....and where Vincent van Gogh lived when he was in Paris....

.....and climed all the way to the top of Montmarte!

There is a (real) windmill behind the trees.....one of the last remaining in Paris. There's a story to do with this park and this windmill, something to do with the Russians and Napolean (I can't quite remember??)

I thought this was a nice building!

I think this is the most beautiful area of Paris

Someone famous used to hang out at this pub.....maybe van Gogh (I can't remember!)

Picasso used to hang out here at the Agile Rabbit!

This apparently is the last vineyard in Paris, right in the middle of Montmarte

.....there also seems to be a lot of rosemary in the vineyard!

....and this is the building where Amelie lived

I spent a day in Chartres, not far from Paris - the Old Town and cathedral are UNESCO world heritage sites

The cathedral is more spectacular on the inside!

It's the best preserved Gothic cathedral in the world....it survived the revolution and both world wars intact

The Old Town is surrounded by a canal

It was really peaceful and beautiful just walking along the canal

This must be where the ancient abattoir was!

There's all these beautiful hand-made street signs all over the place

Back in Paris again!

I couldn't get close enough to get good shots of the Mona Lisa.....it seemed to be further away behind the barrier than the last time I was there

Inside Notre Dame.....there was a free concert on while I was in there.....and on my way out I saw a hunchback man (truly!)
