CNO’s recent “call for art” drew 24 ideas from 7 different artists. FairVote Minnesota prepared the ballots and conducted the August 4 vote using Ranked Choice Voting, as a demonstration of the voting method recently adopted by the City of Minneapolis.
Corcoran residents served as the art jury, and their votes determined the winning pieces. Big thanks to Corcoran resident Karl Stoerzinger, whose 8-foot bicycle trailer was used to transport the traveling exhibition.
The 24 art works were on display in the windows of Susan Hensel Gallery, 3441 Cedar Ave S, leading up to an August 15 reception and potluck barbecue.

Susan Hensel Gallery was packed on Saturday, August 15 for a neighborhood potluck and artists’ reception. The 24 art works were on display, and four winning artists were announced.
Artists Carole Bersin, Angela Davis, Zach Pearl, and Megan Moore each won a $250 prize with the opportunity for an additional royalty to reproduce their work for installation on neighborhood properties.
Several participating artists posed in front of the gallery and their work at the August 15 reception. From L to R, artist Melanie Casiday, artist Megan Moore, artist Zach Pearl, Nancy Beach from FairVote Minnesota, gallery owner Susan Hensel, and artist Angela Davis.
Whittier resident Zach Pearl's prize-winning piece, now available as a 48"x48" stencil. His original board includes a rendering of how the work might look installed on a neighborhood fence or garage.
Corcoran resident Carole Bersin's prize-winning piece received the most votes. Congratulations, Carole! (Note: we didn't make it to Carole's block on National Night Out, so her well-deserved win was without assistance from potentially sympathetic neighbors.) Carole is interested to doing this as a custom mural on properties.
Seward resident Megan Moore's prize-winning piece, now a 48"x48" stencil. Learn more about Megan's work at www.meganmoore.com.
Phillips resident Angela Davis' prize-winning piece depicts cattails in silhouette.
