Berliner Rote Rathuase. Translation: The Berlin Red Townhall.
Fountain in what I think is called Los-Angelesplatz. Reason below.
This is why I think that this is L.-A.platz. Just my theory though. But there is a Los-Angelesplatz in Berlin.
Statue of a working man. This plaza is in the former East Berlin.
My father really wanted pictures of these guys.
Marienkirche. Known by all german-language students. I cannot remember the number of time I had to give directions to the Marienkirche in a class exercise.
Schloßbrücke. Castle bridge. Recognise anyone?
Berliner Dom.
This is also in East Berlin.
The Communists let this amazing structure rot while they were in control of East Germany. It has been amazingly restored, like most of the buildings that survived the DDR. (Many did not.)
Berliner Dom, the Fernsehturm, and Marienkirche. An interesting study of the new and old.
Details, Details...
Altesmuseum. The old museum.
Linden trees. Could we be on...
Under den Linden. (Under the Lindens)
Geschitesmuseum. German history museum
An old watch garrison. They have turned it into one of the many memorials to those who died during the War.
Staatbibliotek. State library.
The Brandenburgtor.
This is the only gate left. It is lucky that it survived, since it was in the 'Dead zone'. It is about ten metres to the east of the Berlin Wall.
Reichstag. (German parliment building)
To the German people
Another meshing of the new and the old. New Reichstag buildings on the left, old on the right.
Memorial to Soviet soldiers who died in the Battle of Berlin. Quick work on the USSR's part. This is on the west side of the wall.
The American Embassy.
Or, rather, what will be the American Embassy, once they are done with there remodelling. The probably wanted to update their structure, so they can compete with the British Embassy around the corner...
... yes this is the British Embassy.
It even says so.
Embassies we saw: American, French, British, Polish, Swiss, Russian, Belgian, Hungarian and probably a bunch more that we did not even realise.
Random buildings in the Diplomatic district.
Commuications Museum.
I always find it interesting when Starbucks and other American exports find themselves in gorgeous old-style buildings.
Coming to Checkpoint Charlie.
Marking the Berlin Wall.
Checkpoint Charlie.
Cool skyway near the Russian Embassy.
We never could figure out what this building is.
Cool though.
