The boys and I went exploring and photographing around the trails to Back Bay, Great Slave Lake, in Yellowknife today. Took a couple of Bear Bangers with us, and ran into one little critter - a keen fox - along the way.

This was the first real "show" of the year, and we were lucky enough to take the boys out earlier in the night and let them experience it, without having to be bundled in our parkas. In fact, I took these in 16 degree celcius with my summer shorts! :-)

Afternoon Hike to Back Bay, Great Slave Lake in Yellowknife

Decided to take a hike to Back Bay this afternoon and try out the new camera lenses I`ve purchased over the winter. It was an incredibly beautiful afternoon, and as luck would have it, the Dog Sled Teams were racing across Back Bay as part of the final leg of the race for the Caribou Carnival.

SnowKing Castle 2009

This is the SnowKing Castle, which resides on Great Slave Lake. It is truly one of the most unique Northern Experiences one can experience. Walking through a "heated" ICE CASTLE which sits on 5-6 feet of ICE on the 5th Largest Lake in North America. :-)

These photos were taken in -42 celcius, in the middle of night, on Prosperous Lake just outside of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. NOTE: These were taken with my regular kit lens. I believe I used the 18-55mm kit. You can really notice the difference on the subsequent pictures taken with my new wide angle lens (Tokina 11-16mm) in September.
