Juliet's Birth (or the day after)

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL and PERFECT. She looks like a very tiny version of Daphne when Daphne was born. Her womb nickname was Trixie, hence the sign on her hospital bed. Miles thought other things were more interesting than a baby sister. He called her stuffed animal a bunny. I couldn't convince him it was a kangaroo. The last two pictures are of her expressions while Darin changed her diaper. She definitely doesn't like being changed as much as Dotty does.

Oliver's Birthday Party

Ollie's first birthday party was a blast. It was Owl themed, of course, and included dinner, visiting, gift opening, and cake and ice cream. Food was yummy and Ollie was adorable as the center of attention. Nicole had prepared a "Pin the eyes on the owl" game and the little kids weren't the only ones that had fun playing it.

Cory and Mary's Housewarming

Finally Cory and Mary feel "moved-in" to their first home and had a nice housewarming luncheon, the day after Thanksgiving, to share it with friends and family. The entertainment was playing Wii. Guitar Hero was the most requested and I'm sure Grandma Naida had to turn her hearing aids off. At least the neighbors didn't complain. Of course the baby cousins were adorable and my camera got lots of exercise shooting pictures of their cuteness. Daphne found a fun retreat in the closet under the stairs and she hibernated there for awhile and wrote stories. But eventually she emerged and after she and Miles played outside for awhile they came upstairs and joined the babies in Dotty's room. It was a fun event.

10-8-07 and 10-9 Coast Hwy Trip

More beautiful weather and best of all no traffic as we cruised down PCH and just did what we wanted. Casey took me to the Point Lobos Nature Preserve, which I had never seen before. Along the highway we saw seals and dolphins and a waterfall and gorgeous scenery at almost every turn. We shared the best steak sandwich and ate an awesome clam soup at a wonderful restaurant called Nepenthe, outside of Big Sur. We spent the night in San Luis Obispo and cruised the college student hangouts there. We got addicted to and sick on caramel apple cider on this trip (one at a boutique in Nevada City and one at Starbucks in San Luis). It is so hard to describe all the elements of a perfect vacation but this trip satisfied and challenged all the senses and nourished the soul. Lots of wonderful time spent in new and old relationships -- family and friends. Lots of sun, exercise (walking and hiking), and great/healthy food. Lots of nature. And all the stress drained completely away.

10-7-07 San Francisco

Casey and I stayed at Ben and Sara R's apt. in Berkley for 2 nights. On Monday we hopped on BARTand went to the city to have fun. Beautiful day. We got off at the Market street stop and found ourselves in an "iffy" neighborhood. (The City Building and the Theater were there, but it was more like skid row) Then we walked about 7 or 8 blocks to the "right" neighborhood. Anthropolgie, Forever 21, Gap, Old Navy, etc. After some brief shopping and lots of walking we caught the "F" trolley (not the cable car) and got off at Pier 39. We walked down toward Fisherman's Wharf to eat lunch but got sidetracked by mimes and steel drum bands. One mime (he's black under the silver) fell head over heels for Casey and proposed. We ended up getting chowder in a bread bowl and sitting on the planter box to eat it. Yum. Then we decided to go to Ghirardelli square for desert and we stopped in some fun shops along the way. We shared a hot fudge sundae. Then called it quits for the day. PERFECT.

10-6-07 Raean and Aaron's Wedding

Raean's Wedding day was a lot of fun. Setting up, taking photos, visiting, laughing, eating, hugging. And all in a beautiful setting with perfect weather ordered and delivered. Aaron is a great guy and he and his folks (Frank and Penny) are genuinely warm and friendly people. Somehow I missed getting a photo of them from the front, though. But I know Jill hired an excellent photographer so I'm sure those I left out will be covered somewhere. Dean took a lot of photos, too. Looking forward to seeing them.

Miles Pirate Birthday Party

Yaaargh Mateys! Ahoy, what a fun party we had on deck. Aye, me parrot concurs. 1) The Pirate Ship was rockin'. Arrr, but nobody got seasick. Aye. stere clear of ye high winds rollin in from th' east. 2) Avast ye scurvy cranky petite pirate wench. Shape up or ye walk the plank. 3) Ah-har! Jack lad! Shiver me timbers! Be that a Pirate scroll ya be readin'? 4) Ya scurvy knave! Brave be ye, for certain, but arrr ye willin' ta die fer that parking spot? That be a fine shiny bike yer starin' at, lad. 5) The swordfight was gruesome Gar, Where can I find a bottle o'rum -- to clean my wounds, lads, only to clean my wounds?

Jamie and Brett's Wedding

August 8, 2007 (Logan Temple) My real camera broke in July. I bought a couple of disposable cameras to take to the family reunion in late July and by the time of Jamie's wedding still hadn't been able to by a new digital so I finished off two of the disposable cameras from the reunion. Hence the poor quality. You can tell which ones are from the 200 film and which ones are from the 400 film. Anyway it was a beautiful day and a wonderful ceremony and super luncheon and the best of company to hang out with. The Bride was beautiful and the groom actually looked peaceful. They are such an awesome couple (and family).

Hutchings Family Reunion

OK. These are lousy photos. My beloved digital broke right before Daphne's birthday party and there wasn't enough time to fix it before the reunion so these photos are from a composite of disposable cameras and my old broken Advantix camera. Then I found out that my digital is not fixable so I'm saving my pennies to buy a new one. Cameras are a necessity (not a luxury) in my book. The reunion was fun but way too short. Bryan, Casey, Brady, Dotty and I drove up together and made some Temple stops along the way. The Rexburg Temple photos are on my cell phone. We saw some beautiful scenery on this trip and had a super adventurous canoe ride in the rain and hail. The jacuzzi was a great way to shut our chattering teeth after that experience. The only big group activity that was planned was the BBQ Saturday night. The food was awesome. Sunday we went into Yellowstone but most of my family only got as far as Old Faithful because of time constraints. Our cabin was one of the best

Dusten's 30th Birthday Party

Nicole planned and pulled off a great party. She also ordered great weather. The company, food, and activities kept everyone hanging out til' almost dark. Since we're all glad Dusten was born it's worth celebrating for hours. The party was at Don and Paula's home in Highland.

Boy did watching her game bring back memories of the boys playing T-ball. I also remember one summer with all the four older boys on 3 different teams, going to 6 practices and 3 games every week. Daphne will be a good ball player. She hustles.

Mothers Day Picnic May 12

My kids took me on a picnic in American Fork Canyon, the day before Mother's Day (May 12 2007). The weather was beautiful but breezy. We had a wonderful lunch with tons of good food then we created boats to race in the river. What an awesome day. We missed Cory, doing a wedding video in Salt Lake, and Bryan, working in California

UVSC-BYU Ball Game

I got a good deal on baseball game tickets for the BYU-UVSC at UVSC. Tickets were $2 which included free hotdogs, chips, and drinks. The weather was iffy and none of us stayed the whole game with school and work looming the next day but we had fun hanging out.

Dotty's Blessing

After both sessions of General Conference, Cory blessed Dotty at his Dad's home in Highland, Utah. Mary's folks were there and a ton of LeSueurs, etc. Dotty was perfect, as usual. All the little kids were adorable, as usual.

Trip to Southern Cal

I finally had a chance to go meet my new Granddaughter, Dotty. Bryan, Casey, and Brady came with me. Actually Bryan drove my car. He's an awesome driver BTW. We arrived at Cory and Mary's on Thursday night. The whole weekend we hung out, ate good food at good restaurants, shopped, went to the movies (Amazing Grace-Awesome movie, BTW), got pedicures (the girls), went to the Beach, had lunch at Ruby's on Huntington Pier with Bill, Ashley, and Will, had dinner at Karl and Diana's (with Bina, too), and watched Cory edit Brit's wedding video. I had so much bonding time with the baby that it was so hard to leave on Sunday. Cory came back with us and even though it was a snug fit in the car, we had such a great trip laughing, listening to great music and conference talks, and having great discussions. Hanging out with my kids is the ultimate heaven.

Valentines Cookies

I started a tradition when Daphne was about 2 to make Valentine cookies with my Grandkids (then we did Halloween cookies, too). Miles was old enough to start with us last Halloween so he was a pro by the time we did Valentines cookies this year. Daphne is wearing an apron my kids made for my Dad as a gift for some occasion. It has their handprints on it. I think Darin was about 10 or 11 then.

Babysitting Oliver

Christmas Day 2006

Christmas Day included waking up at the home of Ed and Dawna Miner in Ogden, UT and watching Daphne, Miles, Darin, and Suzy, and some of Suzy's family and family's friends open presents then rushing down to Dusten and Nicole's home in Lehi, UT to watch them and Nicole's family open presents. Lots of good food. Lots of great people. Lots of fun presents. Lots of hanging out. What a Day!!!

Christmas Eve 2006

This party took place at the home of Ed and Dawna Miner in Ogden, Utah. Daphne and Isabel are adorable angels. Miles didn't want to be a shepherd or a wise guy or anyone but a candy eater but with a lot of coaxing he sort of made it into costume. And he did, without pageant and almost with no one looking, sweetly place his little lamb in the manger with Baby Jesus. The actors in this drama are: Narrator-Dawna, Pianist-Suzy, Director / Photographer-Rebecca, Joseph-Andy, Mary-Naomi, Shepherds / Wise Men-Darin, Ed, Mac (a friend from Taiwan), Angels-Daphne, Isabel, Joy, Me. Daphne also was the star bearer. The evening was rich with visiting, playing, pageanting, eating, and the opening of one present each. Daphne and Miles' pajamas were made by Suzy.

Polar Express Adventure December 14, 2006

I decided that I would take any of my grandkids that live in Utah on the Polar Express when they are 5 years old. This is the first of those excursions. Brady came with us since he will be going on his mission in a year and I figured he won't be my baby boy much longer. We ate dinner at the Burger Keen Trainburger place in Heber before going to the station to board the Polar Express. We had hot chocolate, cookies, sang the 12 Days of Christmas and other carols with elves, watched for the North Pole, met Santa-who gave out bells, and met Mrs. Santa-who gave out cookie recipes, had our tickets punched by the conductor and had a jolly good time.

Payson Lakes Camping Trip

We spent 2 nights at Payson Lakes Campground enjoying the scenery and wildlife. We saw deer, hawks, squirrels, chipmunks, and cows in our campground. Canoeing was a lot of fun. Dusten and Nicole have their own story to tell about car breakdowns, midnight hikes in the dark trying to find the campground, and trying to get the canoes to camp.

Bryce Canyon Trip

One of the funnest camping trips I've ever been on. Brady and I went down earlier than the others to get a good group camp site. We picked one and got kicked out so we waited till the others got there to find a suitable spot. We got a great site near the lake (pond) and the toilets. We set up camp. It was random May weather -- warm and rainy, cold and windy, warm and sunny. We saw most of the canyon, went on hikes, went to the indoor pool at the hotel near the campground, shopped in the gift shop, took tons of pictures, and ate great camp cooked food. All my kids were there and Daphne and Miles (my only grandkids at the time) Bryan brought his girlfriend Tessa. Cory and Mary got there a little later. If I could do a trip like this every year with all my kids, I would be in Heaven long enough that it would last the rest of the year. What an amazing world we live in. Nature is awesome.
