stop #1: Rj's licorice factory. the kiwis are really into their licorice, and this place is the headquarters!
strawberry with white chocolate centers
these are called all sorts.
see the two bags rachel is holding? 2 kg. $5. (total)
licorice pride!
next stop was this windmill in foxton.
built way back in... 2000?
there were a bunch of kids here on a school field trip :)
this is the serjent art gallery in wanganui. gorgeous! reminds me of the sacre cour! :)
we didn't go in, but it's still pretty :)
gardens in wanganui
ah, autumn!
this is this cool little indoor courtyard with the restaurant we ate lunch at
it was called 'a slice of heaven' you can order a slice of heaven, but i got a grilled cheese and pineapple sandwich instead.
across the wanganui river, you can see the tower we're headed for next
here's the entrance...
so first, you go down this tunnel...
good thing it was open.
SCARY!
then you ring the elevator bell
then you pay $1 to the elevator lady and ride up to the top
then you climb this tower....
so you can see this!
there's also a memorial tower up here
so we climbed up the stairs...
for a nice caged-in view
also scary!!
although not scary enough to stop me from sitting on the edge!
or hanging from the top!
this is a typical view in new zealand... hills, sheep, beautiful countrysides
aw... these people had a fun lawn
a dog was barking so we stopped standing in the yard, but rachel still wanted her photo with the pukeko
i think this is a tui on the letterbox
ahh.. final stop, just before sunset was waverley beach
i scrambled down the rocks to get photos before it was too dark... maybe not the best of ideas. i got covered in mud and sand and hurt my butt.
but it was such a pretty beach
full of little caverns
claire on the beach
they call this "cave beach"
pizza hut on the way home. check out the awesome box. kiwis are funny. i love it.
