so the very first thing we did in sydney was visit the hillsong church. this is our friend james who we met while waiting for the bus
hillsong is a HUUUUGGGE church. they are really famous for their worship music, albums and albums worth. and the church started with this one in sydney
their last song was 'one way Jesus' :)
there it is, the sydney icon--the opera house.
and here's #2 -- the harbor bridge!
walking across the harbor bridge. less glamorous than it sounds, haha.
gazing at the opera house :)
you can pay $200 to climb across the bridge. looked fun, but walking across was much cheaper :)
"the rocks" neighborhood
in the rocks area
this is the governor's house. we took a tour
daisy tree outside the governor's house
these guys sit in the big tourist places and play their didgeridoos for money. they also cds. i think they make out quite well.
at the taronga zoo. these guys have a pretty good view.
kookaburra.
at first, i thought this was as close as i was going to get to a koala.
and they are just soooooo cute!
but then, reuben and i went to this amazing park where you can get even closer.
posing with our little friend.
so at featherdale, ($15 entry, $12 for reuben the student) they keep a koala out for you to pet and take photos with.
apparently the koala just climbs on down from his tree when he's tired of being loved.
they do feed him a lot when he's the center of attention.
the girl left for a little while, and i contemplated the ways i could sneak him out under my jacket :)
aww. okay, bye buddy!
so then we bought some kangaroo food for our next friends.
they have this huge petting zoo area where you can just chill with the kangaroos
see what i mean? (fyi, it wasn't me, but it was some other american tourist!)
kangaroos are friendly as!
reuben just napping in the outback.
you put their food in these little ice cream cones. they prefer the cones to the food.
this kangaroo has a baby in her pouch!!
next, i decided to pet a kookaburra. AND IT LET ME!
kookaburra sits in the old gum tree, mighty mighty king of the bush is he...
this is a tasmanian devil! he was scary too, running around in circles... he freaked me out
i thought maybe the goat in the next pen was feeling left out. nice goat.
here's our croc. the only one they had there. but now my aussie experience is complete!
the park was in doonside. let's just say i'm glad we went during the day.
this is me at sydney olympic park
where they held the 2000 olympics.
next to the la_________ volunteer names.
and now, we're headed into the pool
i swam in the same pool the olympic athletes competed in! 6 laps in here, followed by 26 in the training pool (same size, less bleachers--there were more lanes open in that one)
luna park. it's like sydney's coney island. crazy carnival rides by the harbor
rachel riding the wild mouse. :)
i wanted to ride the ferris wheel, but sadly it wasn't running
here's the view of the harbor bridge and opera house back from luna park.
more of the harbor.
more of the opera house.
we went in to the cheapest show possible. we saw school choirs and orchestras perform :)
this is the one picture i got out before they told me i couldn't take any!
riding the ferry to manly beach
manly beach
christine eating her fish and chips in direct defiance to the sign that says they'll charge you if you bring food into this food court.
leaving manly.
to see "Boy A" a movie that was one of the sydney film festival movies! :)
