so my mom and i went on a road trip out to indiana... it's about 12.5 hours driving and we split it across a day and a half
she asked me to pick something to do along the way
so i found this incline in pittsburgh
it was very pretty!
apparently, i already went up it once before though...
when i was like 5.
we went down, then up. i'd have prefered the other way around!!
next state in the journey is ohio!
this was at a rest park on the side of the road. i walked a ways back to get a picture since i was born in this great state!
there was a guy mowing the lawn who saw me walking around and he thought i was actually trying to find a geocache... hahaha. so i let him show me where it was and signed the logbook!
my mom and i decided we needed one more detour, so i found us another one on the map
the longaberger corporate office
it's so cute, and actually a normal design for a building!
(the company makes expensive baskets if you didn't know!)
the next morning, my mom picked a stop for us, a topiary garden in columbus.
it's a topiary representation of a seurat painting.
here's what it is supposed to look like. also see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunday_Afternoon_on_the_Island_of_La_Grande_Jatte
awww
some were in better shape than others.
i don't look much like a topiary.
this is my cousin sarah's favorite place in lafayette (indiana)
they make real fountain sodas
i thought i'd try a mint diet coke..... i recommend the raspberry diet coke instead.
i also went to the indiana state fair in indianapolis!
ooh... just look at all the animals!
i didn't know my family had a rabbit in the fair.
this is the winner for the most ridiculous exhibit in the exhibit hall.
there were signs EVERYWHERE advertising the spectacular cheese sculpture. haha.
if you're not familiar with state fairs... there's a lot of this going on.
yay, we went to sonic the next morning!
my mom taught evan that you take pictures at sonic.
yay, i got to hang out with paige for the night.
and i even met darien and kirsten, finally! they are the sweetest girls ever
finally to our destination: washington, indiana.
mmmm... buffet at the black buggy is pretty similar to what grandma used to serve for lunch!
this is the court house. we drove out here so my mom could get a new marriage license. this is 90% of why we came.
here's the church my mom grew up going to
the cornerstone!
main street, washington, indiana.
so cute!
i love this plaque!
this is the theatre on main street. so gorgeous!
and THIS is my grandma's old house. it's in great shape.
though the new owner wasn't happy about me taking photographs
there's the garage my dad's porsche sat in for a solid 10 years.
and this is the view across the street, where we rode bikes and roller skated :)
my mom LOVES this place
and it hasn't changed at all.... 57 years strong!
and still a good bargain!
my mom goes for the root beer in a frosted mug. i had a slushie.
louisville, kentucky. quite pretty actually!
we went out of the way again, to stop in frankfort
to see the capitol building.
we didn't go in or anything, but it was very pretty to see.
this is kentucky's floral clock, near the capitol building.
our gps recommended we see it :)
mmmm... a favorite restaurant on the way home
all you can eat (in my case 2) breadsticks!
okay, our hotel room was so ridiculous. this picture doesn't show it, but it was totally a conference room. the bed was a murphy bed, and there were 6 tables and 10 chairs in the room. plus more tables folded up in the corner. so hilarious!
one more yummy yummy stop on the way back--tim horton's in parkersburg, west virginia.
the only place where your combos come with a donut (or a croissant!)
