Hello and welcome to our album for our 2008 trip to Lewes.
As this was our second straight year in Lewes, we didn't seem to take many pictures of the town itself. Thus it's appropriate to start with a picture of David and Sarah showing off their Lounge Pants.
But we do have many shots of the family hanging out on the front porch, which is where we spent lot of time. Particularly after stopping by King's Homemade Ice Cream Shop a couple doors down the block.
Family picture, take one. Everyone complained that it didn't come out well, so we tried again.
Family picture, take two.
This time with a flash. Okay, are we done yet? Can we go inside now?
Oh, Striper Bites. We miss you already.
Jay questioned whether the cannons fired at Lewes in the War of 1812 were from militia in the intercoastal water or the ocean. Every time we passed the Cannon Ball House (which was struck by a cannon ball in April 1813), this topic came up.
Marnie took some great pictures. Just you wait. Even better ones lie ahead.
We headed down to Rehoboth Beach for our annual trip to FunLand for Skeeball and other games that con us out of quarters.
Marnie captured the top of the beach umbrellas well.
Just for fun, I played around with the colors on her picture.
We had fun with bumper cars last year, but it was closed the morning we went to FunLand.
Every year, I'm convinced I can win this game. And yet, I never do.
All these years, we have not gone on the horses.
Maybe next year.
Of course, we played some Whac-A-Mole.
Yes, it's spelled Whac-A-Mole.
Last year, I lost a couple bucks at this game. This year, I elected not to play.
Oh man. We Michael Phelpsed this game. We broke the all-time high score not once but twice!
This is the third year Marnie has taken Simon on this ride. He definitely liked it best this year.
We saw zillions of these small fiddler crabs--they were about an inch wide. This one kept waving his yellow claw at us to scare us away.
Beach Plum Island State Park was perfect... except for the mosquitoes and flies.
Marnie would charge after them and they'd all go scurrying into their little holes. It was fun to watch.
Jay, our wildlife hike leader, looks in search of something interesting.
Marnie pauses to lure the crabs out of their holes before rushing after them to scare them all away.
If I'm clever, I'll find the picture I took of them in this exact location last year and compare them. Well, I am clever. But I'm also lazy. We'll see what happens.
Simon is wearing a shirt that says: "Actually, my dad is a rocket scientist."
The great kayaking adventure! Why are there no pictures of the Leaviderfers? Someone had better send me some pictures proving I was out there!
The Rovners were won over by our sun shade (it's not a tent!).
David shows off his new SPF "skin."
"Okay, Sara -- go get daddy some cold water."
Isaac liked playing "floaty football" with David and Simon. Next year, we'll have to get some pictures of it.
He also liked helping Simon with the Gloop Factory.
How many Leavitts does it take to work a dishwasher? (More than three.)
Last year, I took a picture of a grave dated Feb. 30, 1780. Let's see Marnie find something cooler than that.
That's pretty cool. I guess.
Did anyone find it strange that Marnie wanted to hang out in the graveyard at sundown?
She did take some great pictures, though.
On the way out of town, we stopped by the ol' blacksmith shop.
Oh so many tools.
We saw the blacksmith heat up some iron and then hammer it out.
For sale at a shop across from the blacksmith.
On the way to our annual trip to the Colosseum in Denton, we stopped by a small cemetery (this guy was born in 1753 and fought in the Revolutionary War, but we couldn't read much else on the headstone). Then off to eat the best Italian food in Delmarva!
