Fiddlenecks
My tent and Mike and Kat with their Double Rainbow tent in the background. I took a picture of my tent because I thought I finally set it up well.
Wallflower
I totally did not understand this note.
The only reason there's so much tape on my feet is because I couldn't get the moleskin to stick on the bottom of my feet between my big toes and the next toe.
Bush Poppies
Flox
There's my tent again. I found the only way to set it up was with a lot of rocks.
A water source. Most water sources in the Southern California sections were man-made things.
Natural water!
A water cache and Karen of Tex and Karen. She hiked in Keens.
Desert Mallow
Nanook, Tex and Karen. Nanook was someone you would have to meet to believe. He had full crampons and and ice axe out here, plus ham radio equipment and a soldering kit in case the radio equipment needed repair. When he saw my penny whistle, he pulled out a sopranino recorder and played me some Bach.
My tent at the campground in Idyllwild. My clothes are drying after washing them in the shower.
Hanging out and eating at the campground in Idyllwild. The guy in the middle is Clockwork. His clothes are all variations on the color orange.
The most disgusting can of beef stew ever. But it was eaten. I don't remember if it stayed down, however.
Walt (Deuce) is playing a Grateful Dead song on the guitar. He's very good. In front is John (Data).
I loved seeing signs like this in towns.
Heading up the Devil's Slide trail back to the PCT.
Sparky and Joel resting at the junction with the Devil's Slide trail and the PCT.
And me in the middle.
My first snow on the trail
Amazing mountain men. The one on the right is Nimble Will Nomad. He's super ultra-light. His whole pack weighs 12lbs and he carries only 20oz of water at any time, even through the desert. I would die with that little water.
Gary trying to climb this rock. He later became "Drive By" because he drove by a hiker who needed a ride but didn't give him one. There was no room in the car.
It's hard to see, but center and down 1/3 of the way is a large rock where a bunch of hikers are sitting. This is the water faucet before you get to Interstate 10 after descending the longest switchbacks ever off of Fuller Ridge and out of the San Bernardinos.
Walking across the Desert Divide between the San Bernardinos and the San Gabriels. Heading toward Interstate 10 near Cabazon.
The bridge under Interstate 10.
I am now heading the wrong way to get to Cabazon. I'm headed toward the Indian Casino, but the road dead ends. I ended up calling a cab.
