Lake on the way to Duck Pass
Ahead is Duck Pass. Fortunately, it's ahead in the foreground, not the big peaks in the background!
Tony on Duck Pass.
Me on Duck Pass.
Duck Pass.
Duck Lake
The outlet stream on Duck Lake
Tony crossing Duck Creek. We're now back on the PCT!
Views along the PCT on the way to Red's Meadow
Flowers in the grass
This is called Red Cones
A very strange mushroom or fungus
A burn area on the way to Red's Meadow. A common theme this year for the PCT is fire.
I wonder why the trees are all broken off mid-way like this.
Mules at Red's Meadow
Interesting cone thingie. Reminds me of the cones they put on dogs and birds so they won't chew. I guess the horse has a wound.
We took the Devil's Postpile scenic route
Me at the postpile
On top of the postpile
The front of the postpile
We continued on the PCT and got another chance to see the Devil's Postpile from further away.
We camped near this small, unnamed lake before Shadow Lake. The mosquitos were pretty fierce.

Tony climbing up toward Garnet Lake. I remember this part of the climb from the last time I did it way back in 1981.
Garnet Lake
We rested here at Garnet Lake and drank some lemonade.
Bridge over Garnet Lake's outlet stream
Still Garnet Lake
Thousand Island Lake
I remember a lot more islands back in 1981. Probably because I was there in August back then and this was still June.
Boy I must be a little tipsy. My lake pictures are crooked.
Above Thousand Island lake we bumped into Kat, Mike and Sparky. I hadn't seen Mike and Kat since before I arrived in Big Bear and I hadn't seen Sparky since the junction with the Mt. San Jacinto trail way back near Idyllwild!
Heading up to Donahue Pass
If you draw a tic-tac-toe board on this picture, Kat and Mike and Sparky would be where the lower and right-most lines cross, just above a small tree.
Finally the top
Looking over into Lyell Canyon
We made camp on this bench above Lyell Canyon. It was warmer here at the higher altitude than down in the canyon where there was frost.
Tony crossing a bridge over Lyell Fork
I had a whole slew of pictures of Half Dome but they somehow do not exist. So we pick up on the Mist Trail heading down past these amazing falls toward the Yosemite Valley floor.
It was pretty wet standing here waiting for Tony to take my picture.
This trail was amazing the way it was carved out of stone steps into the wall. We were the only backpackers descending this morning.
